Oooh..that's a great question...and possibly a $500 expense I hadn't counted on! I'll see what I can find out.

Kelly - I just bought a full face helmet from OG Racing on the north side of Dulles. Helmet and an additional shaded shield ran me just over $300 with tax.

You have always needed a helmet for the VOI track events. They usually have some loaners, but they may be the wrong size or a bit moist from the previous user.

If you have your own helmet, you should bring it.

Even if you are not bringing your car, you might want to bring your own helmet. No way of knowing what you might be able to get a ride in.

At the Vegas event a bunch of people got rides with the Dodge drift car.

Straight from the horses mouth:

Kelly,

If someone has a helmet we would like for them to bring them, but we
will have helmets available at the driving activities.

A Minimum DOT-00, Snell 95 or later is required if you are bringing your
own.

This is all spelled out in the final mailing package which is going out
next week.

In this day of airline charges for everything, and the fact that a carry-on helmet is a pain:

The SRT10 Drive Experience folks conducting the event have a HUGE 4-bay rack of several-size helmets and they give you a fresh, new helmet sock to keep the cooties at bay...

wonder what the airline would think if you sported your helmet while flying on the plane to Detroit? HAHA. Hell with it I'll just use a rental.

They would probably meet you on the ground with a TSA agent, or you would get to meet the Sky Marshall in person!

PS the SRT helmets are FREE LOANERS not rentals.....

The reason motorcycle helmets are usually not acceptable is because their linings are usually not fire resistant.

Many places will allow the use of them if you wear a nomex sock, but automotive styles still the best.

In addition some of the higher end helmets have different crush characteristics due to the different forces that need to be attenuated in different vehicles.

I was all set to order from the link I posted above. Since they are in PA, figured I'd support another state in my region. Went to order and their website wouldn't go to checkout. No one on the phones on Saturday either. So, ordered from Helmet City. 2 Days free FedEX right to my door. Easy and done!
