VIN's and VON's have not been issued for the VCA Vipers as of yet. I was at both CAAP (Conner Avenue Assembly Plant) and VCA HQ today. Hey, guess what they are building at CAAP? ;)

Chris-
Other folks have told me their VIN#'s for the Yellow VCA cars.
What gives with this conflicting info?

I do know that all the orders have NOT been entered into the system yet, so if your dealer has NOT heard anything...YOU are not ALONE!!!!

Did I see the VCA cars being built? YES! Are the VIN's assigned yet? NO! We spoke with the gentlemen at the plant responsible for VIN assignment AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ASSIGNED. Believe me, nobody was more disappointed than I was, as I made this business trip largely to see my car being built and get the VIN/Serial Number (X of 50). After assurances that my trip would be well spent, it was not. Don't get me wrong, this was my second visit to CAAP (my first visit was to do a factory pick up of my 2000 GTS) and the people there are awesome. However I am still heartbroken to go that distance to find NOTHING. Again, the folks at CAAP bent over backwards, however the timing of my trip (as suggested by VCA HQ) was terrible. Perhaps the group going next Thursday will have better luck (call VCA HQ to get in on the factory tour - VCA members only!). I cannot afford to go again. Oh, and forget pictures: They confiscated all cameras at the start, including camera phones. The new policy is NO cameras are allowed inside the plant for ANY reason. Sigh...

So how many VCA cars are built? ZERO. How many were on the line? TWO. Did either have a VIN? ONE. Was it finished? NO - it was a chassis with an engine and wheels. No interior, windshield, body, etc. Was the VIN assigned to anybody? NO. Geez, so how do you even know it was a VCA SRT? THE WHEELS. Were they cool? YEP! Better than that single flyer picture would indicate, but I promised my "date" that they could spill the beans on the wheels here on these forums. BTW, they said the wheels just showed up at the factory yesterday. And there was not a SINGLE yellow body panel or interior piece in the entire plant that we could see.

I want a 30-second headstart if I have to drive my Denali in the autocross at VOI! :p

Interesting note is that the Vins have just popped up in the last few days, and if a Dealer has only one individual getting a car , then it is easy for him to figure out who is recieving said Yellow Screamer. There are no names on any of the Vins, and therefore Chris is right that the plant has no information on who is assigned what. This should be rectified very shortly, but no fault of the plant as numbers needed to be assigned for shipping purposes, etc., and names should follow rapidly. The list price is what has been shown from the beginning, which is great, as the actual cost to run such a short number of specialty vehicles is said to far exceed this ( good example would be the Yellow VCA Edition of Mr. Tran's which exceeded 100+K ). The increase for the Viper Edition is a paltry $4700 and considering the Mambas were an additional $2500, this seems very acceptable. I was with Chris at the plant and it was obvious they were just ramping up full steam to get the VCA Editions out, but the panels, as Chris stated were not there. Chris and I were told nothing was specifically assigned ( this is still true ),but one can assess and answer if a Dealer has only a single car coming( again already noted ) They anticipate body build possibly today or early next week, but the frames are moving down the line as Chris stated.About the wheels, well, see the post.................ha.

According to the plant yesterday, they have assigned no VINs or VONs. This was also what Viper HQ stated. I flew to Detroit SPECIFICALLY to get my VIN and hopefully see my car in some stage of build (scheduled it with the plant and VCA HQ) and it simply could not be done. We spoke face-to-face with the guys that assign VIN's at CAAP, as well as the VCA folks at HQ. All stated that there was not a single VIN assigned as of 3:00 yesterday afternoon when I left.

Since that point (and my post), Bill correctly stated that those dealers that are getting ONE VCA SRT-10 (and only one) can look into the system and see a Viper with a VIN/VON. It doesn't state which Viper it is or who it was ordered for, but the price should be the indicator. They have not been assigned to any individuals, however simple deduction should correctly indicate what they are. For those dealers with multiple orders (Woodhouse), there is no way to determine what has been assigned to who. Technically nobody has been assigned a VIN, but the dealers with only one in the system can figure it out.

My apologies for the post as it certainly was not intended to call anybody a liar. Please try to understand my frustration in flying all the way to Detroit and being told by ALL people at the Viper plant and VCA HQ that no VIN's have been assigned. It was a waste of time and money, and I am not one of the wealthier owners that can afford such fruitless trips.

Oh, and once again the VIN's are random: The single chassis that was complete was 50049 and we were told it is the first VCA SRT. Who knows?

Gotta share some of Chris's frustration, as I flew up there also to get a handle on the Vins, and customer vehicles, as I wanted to make sure we got paperwork out asap, as time is a dwindlin. With such a tiny window, it will be impossible for many to get their cars plated, but it should be no problem to have In Transits/Temporary Plates in everyone's hands. I was hoping to make things easier on all the excited VCA buyers, but the best laid plans of Chris and Bill, didn't quite come to fruition. We both left with impressions that this will be alot hotter than the photos, granted much of this assessment comes from the wicked rims!

I received our Vin #'S. My Dad and I are getting a VCA our Vin numbers are 500058 and 500079. What do the wheels look like? Are they chrome black or just flat black?

Excellent news on the VIN's! The wheels are chrome with a "smoke" film. Not a gloss black, but something like very dark chrome (anthracite). Kinda like this one, especially if you look towards the bottom of the wheel:

They look a LOT better in person than the prototype picture we saw!

I didn't have any problems getting the info. As soon as it was out I got the Vin#. My dealer is only getting mine so it was a no brainer. The other dealers who are getting more then one don't have a name with the vin so thats the problem. I asked my dealer to check on rates with chrysler and they needed the Vin# before they could give me a rate quote. I found a better rate online so i'm not using Chrysler.
