I understand that the 2001 has a plastic vane impeller, that may lead to problems.

Would like to take a pre-emptive strike against this happening on my 2001. Actually, I'm pretty happy with my car so far, and the temperature gauge always stays around 190, the middle line of the three, straight up. Even when I am getting on it, and driving hard, it barely goes much past that. Having the A/C on makes no difference. I'm sure this is how the car was engineered to run.

Does anyone know if there is an aluminum vane pump that will fit a 2001?

What do the 02's run?

<FONT face="Comic Sans MS">There is a tuner (don't remember which one) that states his package includes a upgrade water pump, so I guess there is one out there.

That said, I don't think the plastic impeller is the issue, but the occasional defective connection between the impeller and the shaft. In fact, the problem seemed to have been contained to a bad batch of pumps, not all year Vipers if I remember correctly.

As I understand it, plastic actually has an advantage as it is less likely to be eroded (resulting from a combination of corrision and abrasion) then an aluminum impeller.</FONT f>

Yeah, its definately Archer. One guy in Dallas had it put in at Archers Dallas shop, and says its either a trade-out or they can rework your existing pump. Supposedly they change it to a twin impeller design.

The report on it from the guy who put it on was that this thing NEVER moves to redline. Sounds like a good upgrade.
