I am working withg a dealer on a 1994 RT-10 red, a few scratches under front and small stress crack in hood, other than that the head gasket was checked through a compression test and there are no leaks, no wear on side bolster and overall very clean car. Asking was $39900 dealer without a hard top. He said he would do $38500 with the hard top I am trying for $37000 with the hard top. What do you think??? thanks for the feed back

Have you looked at the classifieds on this site? Even though the head gaskets are ok now from what I understand it is just a matter of time before they WILL leak. Plan on that expense when you consider price

yes checked the classifieds

found a few 1994's but I would rather buy from a dealer with a very good reputation than a individual person.

Re: yes checked the classifieds

Is the dealer offering any warranty ?

The dealer must have gotten it from a private person as well ?

Run the car fax, if you get some history you may find folks here that have some contact with the car or previous owner over the years .

Nope

No warranty on a 1994.

They ran the car fax and it came out clean
Dealer took it in trade for a 96 GTS.

Re: Nope

Maybe you are still able to buy a DC warranty for the car if the selling dealer is a Dodge dealer and can "certify" it? I don't know what the age limitation is, but that's my understanding from Ringgold Dodge when I was shopping...
I paid about that much for mine including hardtop, 2k2 wheels, warranty, and NWE windows last year.
Definitely, get one with warranty, or have the price adjusted if it doesn't have one (mine's getting rebuilt for head gaskets). Did you check the engine from underneath for coolant leaks/tracks (see my recent posts)? A compression check isn't necessarily enough (mine passed). Good luck!

alright here goes

Talked to the dealer and they said they would do $37,000 without the hardtop or $38500 with the hard top although it does not include side windows. NADA on the car is $36000 on the high retail.

As far as the warranty goes I didn't ask about buying an extended warranty. They said they looked under the car and there were no signs of leaking.

Re: alright here goes

how many miles? original tires?

No way in heck would I pay over $37k WITH a top, and WITH windows.
$37k is a fair / ok price WITH top and windos IF-IF-IF this is a low-mile car.
Not low by NADA say-so, but low in the Viper world. No more than 15-k miles at that price. 50K miles? $33000.

The gaskets WILL go away eventually unless already replaced. This is an event that a private party can prove, and a used-dealer cannot. Dont be afraid of Private party becuase the VCA can check it out, as can a GOOD dealer.

Good luck...call for more info

Re: alright here goes

I agree with Jon B. I sold me 94 RT/10 a little while back with 15K miles on it, hard top, Viper Mania windows, Borla cat back, 3.55 gears and a Dodge added care extended warranty that expired in 2007 for $37K. The car was in pristine condition. There are better deals to be had.
Good luck.

I still need to see the car

but the dealer has a great viper reputation.

car has 14560 for miles and I am still waiting to see if he will do $37000 with the hard top.

I was asking for $36 with the hard top but he said no way. I think I may walk away from this deal. Still contemplating

Re: alright here goes

I don't fault dealers for having to get more money for cars. They have a lot of overhead. Individuals can take losses when selling their cars, but when dealers take too many losses, they don't stay in business.
My friend bought a GM dealership and sold cars like popcorn. Eighteen months later he went under. Sold too low to stay in business.
Other side is that dealers can buy wholesale. But they still have to make money. I don't buy from dealers, but I would if I had to. (This weekend I will try and buy a Corvette - a 1957!)

Re: alright here goes

Wannaviper..there is no question the head gaskets will need changing very soon. We are all on you side and trying to help but you must understand the head gaskets are an issue on all gen 1's. My car was bought with 9900 miles and needed head gaskets immediately. Dont be fooled. Price is too high..wait him out or be prepared to walk away..DON'T get emotional when it comes to buying a car..

Re: alright here goes

Adam, any pointers on keeping emotion to a low level when buying a car? I saw a black Hummer Wednesday, now I'm flipping out wanting one. I didn't plan to flip out but emotion got the best of me.

Thanks Man

Those cars looked pretty nice but I really want to find a red one, preferably a 1994 for loan finance reasons. But I appreciate the assistance.

Re: Thanks Man

Off the subject but,
how did the text on this thread get all strung out so far to the right?
I hate when it does this. Sometimes it's caused by a photo.
I don't know why this time.

Re: Thanks Man

I don't know about that, Craig.
I don't think it's that predictable. The original engine in my car went 95k miles before the gaskets went bad.
