Not sure if anyone has tried it but does the Ipod nano work with the icruze?? I hate my 20 gig it freezes up in the car all the time. Since the nano doesn't have a harddrive will it work much better??

Dan maybe you've tried it in one of your costomers cars?? Thanks in advance

it should work, although I doubt having a hard drive was the source of your crashes. Make sure you have the latest firmware. I know the photo ipods have a tendency to crash when attaching to car kits.

Ricky- I am telling you. a Mini loaded with 1.3 software works the best. However, I have yet to try a Nano.

which is better? mac or ibm?

i have both a mini and a nano. i keep the mini in the car and the nano for the gym. IMHO, the nano is _too_ small. but i keep it anyway. wish they made a 6gb nano, though... battery life on the mini is better than the nano too. details...

either way, update the firmware on what you already have and you should be happy...

the problem with the 20 gig 4th gen is that the ipod itself freezes up. I can't fix it! I've done all the software upgrades etc. Does the mini use flash or does it have a harddrive?

edit: nevermind I realized the mini isn't even sold anymore...unless I find one off ebay...does the nano have any problems with freezing up?? I know my ipods always show that sad faced ipod! Maybe I should get a nano with a 3 year warrenty so I don't have to replace them so often!

The mini was actually hard drive based. Most of the problems come from hotplugging the ipod to your icruze, usually while the ipod is in the middle of an action (like playing a song). Try turning the ipod off before plugging in or out and see if the problem goes away. If not, find someone with a nano and test it out.

Warfang- Trust me, I have tried every single ipod known to mankind on the iCruze system, except the Nano, and the Mini series is BY FAR the best. they work exactly like the system was INTENDED to work. However, the system MUST be loaded with Software 1.3, which is the update before Podcast in 1.4. 1.4 is loaded with the same crap and problems the other units have experienced all along. I have a 6-gig Mini in my car, and that is what I always recomend.

The problems with the iPods other than Minis is the crap that Apple put into their operating systems. Big hard drives, color, and other gimmicks slow the system down and it causes problems AFTER it is connected, not while connecting.

Ricky- If you look hard, you can find a new 6-gig Mini on Ebay. The Nano is not even available in a 6...and god knows if it will even work correctly. I can e-mail you Software Version 1.3 if you go that route.

My only problem with getting one from ebay is taht I've already had 2 broken Ipods now!! My 20 gig is basically gone. I can't even get it to plapy properly while at the gym anymore. I think the icruze has screwed with it too much lol..I think i'm going to get a mini, test it out, if it works well keep it if not return it and get a mini off ebay i guess! If the damn audiolines store had listened to me when I gave them your instructions I woudln't have this problem! :(

the icruze is not a very reliable system to begin with. i'll take your word for it that the mini works well with it, but as an ipod, it was one of the more poorly designed one. that's one of the reasons it was discontinued. the headphone jack on the mini is prone to breaking after some use.

I do agree that Apple really should still have a bw ipod, and the color/photo additions only add to the overhead. It guess it all depends on where you plan on using your ipod more... on your person or in your car.

Warfang- The Headphone Jack issue was indeed fixed in the later iPod Minis... as well as the battery life and end cap issues. The iCruze however does not use the headphone jack nor is battery life an issue, so it really is moot... although a later model is a no-brainer.

As far as the iCruze being unreliable...? I think it speaks for itself that after trying a half-dozen types of iPods, which SUPPOSEDLY have the same interface systems... and have only one of those 6 work every time (mini) that it is indeed the iPods, not the iCruze. The operating system of the iPods is extremely slow, and causes the problems.

I don't have iCruize, but I just got one of the video iPods and bought a matching iTrip that plugs into the bottom of the iPod and plays through the stereo.

The nice part is that I can play the iPod in any one of my cars, and through the various stereos at home.
It's a tiny unit and has a power pass-through connection for running and charging the iPod through the cigarette lighter plug.

iTrip only works if you're not in a major metropolitan area. Around San Francisco, every frequency range is taken, so you'll be lucky if you can drive for 5 minutes without having to switch channels.

Moot is correct. That's why I said it depends on whether you'll be using your ipod more for car or carry. Like you correctly said, the last batch of the minis had most of their problems addressed (they ALWAYS discontinue things after they perfect it), but if you're buying from eBay, be careful which one you get. I just figured since every other person has an ipod nano nowadays, borrow someone's and test it on your icruze and see if it gives you any problems. The biggest issue (if everything works fine) is capacity. Do you have more than 1000 songs and is it your goal to carry that many on you? You can just sync specific playlists. The 6gig mini will give you about 1500 songs.

If the iCruze only works well with one ipod on a specific firmware, then it's far from perfect. You can blame Apple (and they are at fault for a slow OS as you have pointed out) to a certain extent, but the ipod is designed for carry, not car integration. From the look of things, it will be designed for both in the near future. As an after-market manufacturer, it's Monster Cable's responsibility to make sure their designs are compatible. You're not the first to realize that most ipods have problems with it, so either the manufacturer should advertise it as ipod mini ONLY with specific firmware, or work to better their designs.

You can't blame Dodge if your Viper runs fine stock, but fails after you install an aftermarket part.

btw: If you're into seamless ipod docks in your car to go with your icruze, check out Matt Turner. He did a great job on an Infiniti M45 for me some months ago. Here's the link: http://tunertricks.com/blog/index.php?p=68
