Re: Don\'t be me...

did the same thing. Went to driving school and bought an even faster car. I felt the same way, I wanted to kill myself but its really no big deal looking back. Granted, mine was a mustang cobra, not a viper but they both are just cars. At least no one got hurt and you didnt kill someone. Go to driving school and get a TT 02 FE ACR. End of story

00SVTdubs,

I've taken a lot of comfort and gotten a lot of kicks out of the responses to this thread, but I have to say that I think I like your last sentence the best of all.

Everybody else--especially on other forums that I frequent--has been telling me to trade down in terms of horsepower and torque. And here you come with the TT 02 FE ACR. I absolutely love it. Thanks for putting a smile on my face and for helping me get my b*lls back. You kick ass, dude.

It could be worse. I smacked a wall & a person was injured, who happened to be an instructor, for Skip Barber,@ VOI 9, totalling a very rare ACR,

It seems like there are plenty of cars that get wrecked at the track, yet "go to a high performance driving school" is frequently given as advice...

Yeah, drive with the confidence of a ******. Am I in kindergarten? Did I offend someone with my earthy humor?

He'll get his ballz back, and until then, a little levity couldn't hurt, and might even help.

They don't hand out magic pills at these schools that make you accident-free forever.

If going to a performance school just makes you aware of your limits just so you can push past them even harder on the street, then evolution will fulfill it's end of the bargain. On the other hand, if you learn your limit and use that knowledge to know when to back off... your IQ is higher than 100, and you'll have a higher likelihood of avoiding or surviving a wreck.

The track is where you learn to push your limits in a controlled environment... wrecks are expected, that's why your insurance won't cover it. But that's where you're SUPPOSED to wreck, where there are no grandmas crossing the street.

Warfang,

Why the sarcasm while agreeing with me at the same time? Go ahead and drive your car where "wrecks are expected" because that's where "you're SUPPOSED to wreck," all without auto insurance. Just send us some pics afterwards. :needpics:

Catch up on your reading comprehension... not agreeing with you at all, unless your original point was that driving school helps. Seemed obvious to me you didn't think so, unless you need to catch up on your writing abilities too.

So contrary to your original post, and without sarcasm: performance driving school DOES help... it just doesn't guarantee accident-free driving, just a better understanding of vehical dynamics and what NOT to do.

You cannot equate what happens on the tracks to what happens on the road. In most performance driving schools, you drive THEIR cars. I consider Viper Days more of a racing school than a driving school. While a lot of the skills learned in both schools intersect, the difference is in the intent of the course. A racing school is there to improve track time, while a driving school is there to help your understanding of vehicle dynamics and how to react to emergency situations.

While cars can be wrecked at ViperDays, it is rare for a DRIVING school to lose a car. Ask Fred... I'd bet the hundreds of times he's been to Skip Barber, he's NEVER seen a wreck during a driving class. :p

No no offense at all, I just thought if you said: "drive with the confidence of ******," it would have been funnier.

Re: Don\'t be me...

Best Cure: Get back in the saddle as soon as possible and get more experience behind the wheel. Maybe talk to Marv Rose and his son if you are looking for special model anf year. He is helpful finding particular Vipers for people.
Does anyone have his number they can post on here ???

Definitely try to acquire a Viper ASAP. You soon forget about the x girlfriend as soon as a new curvy shiny one enters the picture.

DO NOT GO DOWN TO A LESSER CAR!!! You will not feel the same passion for it as you did for the Viper and you will probably be bored to hell driving it.

Re: Don\'t be me...

Its Just A Dodge. They made 360 of the FEDs you crave, relatively BIG #s in Viperdom. Find another. Saddle Up.

If you DONT have the skills, you seem to be the kind of guy willing to admit it.... USE NEWER TIRES, and FAITHFULLY MONITOR THE PRESSURES IN THEM. And if you have the skills to "handle" 500HP on old, hard tires, you PROBABLY gained it at a high performance driving school. Or Three schools. Or more.

Even 5 PSI difference between Viper rear tires is a BAD thing....
Old Hard Tires = Poor traction, even in the hands of Michael Schumacher....he'll just 'understand' them and their reduced limits.

Warfang,

Why don’t you stop hallucinating for a few minutes and go back and read my original sentence? There is NO COMMENT on whether a driving school helps or not. I NEVER STATED or implied that a performance school should guarantee accident free driving. I merely stated that “plenty of cars get wrecked at the track” (just as they do on the street.) “At the track” would include all the forms of track driving that you have mentioned, and then some. Not that I could possibly care less, but since you have stated that “wrecks are expected (at the track),” and “that’s where you’re SUPPOSED to wreck,” you are, in my opinion in agreement with my original statement.

Thanks for stating something that’s already been said 2000 times. That makes 2001. Also, it is quite irrelevant in regards to my original post.

While cars can be wrecked at ViperDays, it is rare for a DRIVING school to lose a car. Ask Fred... I'd bet the hundreds of times he's been to Skip Barber, he's NEVER seen a wreck during a driving class. :p

Both events are done "at the track." If you bothered to read the post that I originally responded to with more than a second grader's comprehension, you would have noticed that the ACR that was totaled with injuries to the instructor WAS AT A SKIP BARBER SCHOOL. So even if Mr. Fred has NEVER personally seen it occur (therefore, in your view, it must have never happened,) it HAS HAPPENED.

It's just a car. Well not really, it's a VIPER. Now stop beating yourself up and go spend that moolah on another Viper. You've learnt your lesson.

Actually, at Skip Barber, the driving schools are done on the skidpad... nothing to hit for hundreds of yards. Although they've recently added one class where they let you take their porsches and beemers on the track... oddly enough they don't insure you for that, and they don't use ACR's. If you were referring to an event where they used Skip instructors at a Viper event, or VOI, that's still a RACING school.

Like I said, there's no magic pills. Anything is possible. Any wrecks that happen in any driving school and on the track is NOT relevent to what happens on the street, because only idiots drive on the strret the way they would on the track. However any knowledge learned from it IS relevent. What you do and what you learn are two different things... think "wax on, wax off."
