I'm trying to explain a part under my 2002 GTS's hood to someone but I don't know what it's called and don't have my service manual with me. It's the black round shaped part (about the size of a volley ball) on the driver side right behind the wheel well. It has a couple tubes coming from it and the sticker on it has a few bar codes and has Bosch on it. Anyone know what it is? Also, would it cause the check engine light to go on if the smaller tube was popped out and the car was driven for a short period of time? Many thanks.

Shoot a PM to Bill Pemberton @Woodhouse or Chuck Tator @TatorsDodge (Viper Wizard on these forums)...they may be able to help you. ~juli~

That would be your brake systems master cylinder, or so it sounds. Wouldn't seem unreasonable to me that you'd get a CEL if you'd popped a vacuum hose. I'd be very careful driving the car right now, since depending on the line that's off, you may find yourself without power brake assist.

The hose that popped off was the small hose, I'd say it's a quarter inch hose. There was no liquid so I'm guessing it's a vacuum hose. I put it back in it's slot right away, didn't notice any difference in the feel of the brakes. Thanks for the info guys.

That is most likely the Brake booster, not the master cylinder. There are a couple lines there. If the big line fell off you would basically lookse your brakes. It would feel as if you were braking with the engine off. A broken loose Vacuum line WILL cause a check engine light. If the line is in good shape just put it back in place. If the end is streched and is not tight on the fitting simply cut off the cracked/streched end and shorten it to the point it fits tightly. If it cannot be shortened and still fit comfortably it will need to be replaced.

I'm pretty sure I accidentally pulled it out of the fitting when I was installing new ignition wires and didn't realize it until the next day. The hose is in good shape, I just pushed it back into the fitting and everything with the car seems normal.

Thanks for the info Steve.
