Hi everyone!
In october I bought my GTS -96 with 10.000 miles on it, and I have been following this forum ever since! Awesome car, and I have a few things to fix during winter. I have bought a Shop Manual which will help me alot, but at the moment one thing puzzels me. My battery drains quite rapidly, I think it has gone bad and I will have it replaced, but I have noticed that the yellow lights in the Door lock buttons are always on, and I mean always, when the car is unlocked! Only way to get them off is to lock the car.
I can´t get any help from a Chrysler dealer as they don´t sell Vipers here in Sweden, so now I hope you can!!!!!! Is this the way it should be??

Hi Mikael,
CONGRATS on your new love!!
Yes replace your battery Mopar part# 4709386.
When the car is unlocked those lights will be on. When your in the car and push the lock button they should go off or outside of car they should go off when you push the lock button on your key FOB. That should be the normal operation of that system.
Hope this has helped?
If you have any other questions don't hesitate to e-mail me or throw your questions here on the Board there is a lot of knowledge here!

The lock light stays on because your EEM (electronic entry module) is bad. I had the same problem with my 1996 GTS. You will need to aquire the new module and also move your hood alarm pin foward versus it's current position.

There are several TSB's on the subject. I'll post them later.

Your Welcome!

PART II:

Mikeal, Ron brings up a good point! If the system is working properly, the LED's should turn off in a minute or two, when the EEM sees no activity. If not Ron may be right, that there is something going on with the EEM.
Dose the Alarm System work?[Arms and disarms?]

And yes, there are TSB's on your '96' that have to do with these systems!

Let us know if we can help you further!!

Mikael,

The TSB's you'll need are 08-01-99

"The vehicle security alarm may fail to arm properly, go off without apparent reason OR cause the battery to go dead"

and 08-49-98

"The EEM software may cause the module to fail to respond"

If you need copies faxed, let me know.

Guys, thank you!
Yes, I do have a problem with the alarm that is not working at all. This is something I was going to attac later in the winter season! I can not get the alarm to work at all, and the remote control only occationally works to lock/unlock the doors.
I would definitly like to have the TSB´s and also if you have it the parts number for the EEM. As you might understand I have to order everything I need myself from a Dealer/Vendor in the US, as Chrysler dealers here know nothing!
Do you have access to my mailaddress automaically through this posting or do I have to post it separately?
This is my first posting, so I am not familiar with the routines!

Mikeal,
E-mail me you VIN# and I'll run it on DC's computer and I can get all of the TSB's that go with your Viper! Then I'll e-mail them back to you!?

My Opinion Varies, but does NOT contradict prior opinions; These possibles will be way cheaper to fix and easy to diagnose:

A) IF THE LED light on the lock stays lit on your 96-97 Viper even after manual locking, (96.5-97 had a different EEU than 98+) please check the following:

Your hood switch adjacent the RF hinge may be mis-adjusted. THis keeps the LEDs on, the circuit open, and a weak car battery DIES FAST. Simply examine and adjust it "higher" and lubricate it on occasion. {later cars too, but the 98+ EEU ignores it if open.)

B) YOUR FOB BATTERIES are a also "possible" culprit. Especially since your alarm is intermittant. Hold Both Down AT THE SAME TIME for 8-10 seconds til the horn *****. This will reset the alarm circuit on all 96.5-2002 Vipers. It only works if the Fob Batteries are strong and the EEU is working correctly.

C) Weak / old battery.

D: What those other guys correctly said.........

Aint This Site a GREAT place for VCA Members ????
