Starting a new thread with a poll. (NOTE: You can select more than 1 option if you have 2 door panels chipped)

Quote from my original thread. Check the attachment for an arrow pointing to the chipped area.

I have seen more than 1 now where they were "chipped" in the same spot on the drivers door panel. The few that I have seen the chips look identical.
The plastic part where the door release handle is. The chip is just above and to the left of the vertical grab handle.
Here is a pic of another one I saw while looking through an eBay ad. Has anyone else seen this?

Two gen 4's here. Neither one have a chip there.

My guess is possibly a men's wedding band catching the corner? Left hand ring finger sure would be in that area a lot. I know I take my ring off whenever I wash my car as I'm afraid to damage or scratch anything.

This chipout starts as a horizontal stress crack about 1 cm long... I've seen the cracks. May need a bright light to see it. Apparently there is some force acting on that corner of the plastic panel.

I have the exact same chip(in exactly the same location) in my 09 GTS B/W vert. Now THAT freaks me out. I remember when I first noticed it too. I wondered "how the hell did that chip get there"?
It doesn't seem to be in a stress area. That's what makes the location so weird. Thanks for posting this. At least I'm not alone with this.

My 2009 ACR didn't have it when I bought it but had it at some point by 1,400 miles on the drivers door panel. Exactly like pictured in the first post and like yours Lespauldude.

When I saw mine I was like ***, then when I saw the pic of the ACR on eBay with it I had a very strong suspicion this may be more common than just mine simply because the chip is almost identical. My car is less than 1 year old (since sold new from the dealer)

2009 Viper coupe with same chip on driver's door. Repaired mine with a plastic repair kit before it got any worse.

:dunno:I just looked at my passenger side door (in the same area) and noticed a stress crack in the same spot. For some reason, it looks like that area is under
some sort of stress (at least enough to do damage to the plastic part). I think that specific contact point is just too close to the other part of the door that it
is adjacent to. IMHO. :dunno:

Have to edit my post above...my drivers door is cracked. Damnit. Evidently you aren't supposed to open and close the doors

$80,000 + car with poor design for 7 production years? How does this happen? Anybody tried a warranty claim?

They should cover you under your warranty. What ***** is, it will probably do it again.

Tried to get mine covered with my maxcare. Wasn't covered.....$615 for a new door panel.

I have one in my ACR and it came from the seat beat buckle. I took it off quickly and the metal buckle hit the door panel and chipped it. It looks identical to yours. Plastic repair kit is the answer. Cheap and hardly noticeable after repair.

After reading this thread, I just checked my doors and found it on the driver's side door panel

I never noticed it before.

What plastic repair kit would you recommend?
