I then removed them and saw the word CHINA in big letters on the TINY magnet. These are dime store items.
I'm sorry but you are misinformed. The magnet is small because it's neodymium, not ferrite. They are a lot stronger than ferrite magnets, and as such only need to be a fraction of the size. Neodymium is also quite a bit more expensive than ferrite rings. The "magnet" that you actually see on the back of the speaker is an aluminum cap, which acts as a heatsink- neodymium magnets are more sensitive to heat (lower Curie point) and using the cap helps increase power handling.
When the subwoofer system says ALPINE, I would expect the other speakers to be the same. Wrong.
They're still Alpine speakers, made in one of their plants in China.
chances are those Polks you bought are made in China or Southeast Asia as well.
Apparently the speakers are only running 1/3 their capacity because they need to break in and the stock sub cant keep up.
"Break-in" of speakers is a myth.
But, do you know what speakers they are a knock-off of? Kenwood Dual-Mags, some of the best speakers out there.
They're not a "knock-off" of DualMags. They're Alpine "DDDrive" speakers. The only similarity is that they both use neo magnets.
one can easily determine that these are probably Durango hand-me downs
They are not. The Viper is the only vehicle that uses those speakers.
(not speaking for Alpine)
