Well, my Doug Levin intercooled (1st one!) snake was dynoed today.... We decided to dyno it while the engine was hot and air filter ON the engine, just like it would be driven on the street to simulate normal everyday driving conditions...

The numbers are SAE RWHP....

My system is a custom intercooled package.

749.5 RWHP
752.7 RWTQ

The numbers above were made by not even bringing the engine to REDLINE. The HP was STILL CLIMBING so we decided not to redline it. We think these numbers would have gone much higher, but decided to call it a day and didn't want to push the motor too far.
This engine has NO NITROUS, 93 Octane pump gas, race fuel injected......

Thanks Doug, your are incredible!! Doug promised me at least 600 RWHP.. He aims to impress and exceed expectations..! Pictures of the graph will follow shortly.....

Now that IS some Gerbil Power!

HOLY COW!

Great numbers, Gerald! Congrats Doug, on another outstanding project!

Hmmm... here's an interesting idea - make conservative promises of performance and then overdeliver to an ecstatic customer... Sounds like a recipe for success to me!

Good for you!

Wow, very impressive. I am wondering too if this is the Stage 1 or not. Also, how much does the intercooler run or would I have to contact Doug about that?

Gerald, you gotta post the story for the first unlucky few that lines up next to you at "Gandy Racetrack", do tell, the first few should be good ones, like 20 car length good ones until word gets out, if it's not out already, let us northern snow packed freaks have a little reading enjoyment if nothing else.....

WOW!! Congrats to Gerald, Doug, and the DLM team. That car is a -monster-! Gerald, you're picking that up tomorrow? You have to let us all know how it drives -- from the torque "curve" it is going to go like stink from just off-idle!

Very, very nice numbers. Maybe I'll be able to watch you hand a spanking to some unlucky person on Gandy some night?

Thanks for all the kudos guy! (and gals)...

I'll get some pics of the engine when I get it.. Lassen eat your heart out!

I think the boost is set at 9 or 10 lbs. Perhaps Doug can chime in here before I insert foot into mouth (happens a lot on this board for me)

Totaly stock engine, only bolt ons. hehe (That was for you Tom
laugh.gif
, j/k)

This wasn't really a "DLM Stage X" kit. More of a custom system.
I had a budget and everytime I made a sale here at the office, I'd call him up and add "this" and "that" from other packages. I think I drove Doug nuts, but every time I called he advised me what we can do. So putting a number on the packag would be very misleading. As far as the cost of the intercooler, you'll have to talk to Doug. Or Doug can chime in here anytime.

Thanks
Gerald

Yo!

Good lookin numbers. Never seen a torque curve like that. Not much torque down low in the rpm band like NOS engines. May work good for traction.

Hurry home so I can come down and we can have the "battle of the bolt-ons"

Oh, Scott & I may give Gerald a run for his money

He's certainly in rarified air!

Err, yah. Gerald's got only 550 ft/lbs at the rear wheels at, oh, 2500 RPM. Not much torque at all ;)

Let me put this in perspective. Here's Gerald's dyno run with my run -- from when I had heads, headers+exhaust, etc. and was making 515 RWHP -- superimposed in blue. Gerald's car is making torque from waaaay down there.

Congrats, those are some great numbers! One question, why didn't he push it to the redline? I assume you will on the street. Your bottom end is broken in, isn't it?

Gerald - Your car was fun to build and you were VERY instrumental to building a powerful snake! Your willingness for allowing us to do our thing and allotted time was much appreciated and set a nice pace for (yours) and future snakes. We've had the privilege of building two SC cars for you and this one was no exception. For number two car we added something special for a non Level III car
smile.gif
.

Scott - Can't wait to see what numbers we derive with the addition of the intercooler on your car. Well, not just an intercooler, your car is in pieces right now. You put your trust in our court and that's worth a "a *** of gold to me." I won't let you down!

Ben - Your too smart for your own good! You'll be going places VERY FAST!
smile.gif

Chuck - Hopefully Gerald will let you take a spin in his car, tell me what you think, ok?

Tom - You nitrous guys all think alike... I like that! It's hard to duplicate the TQ numbers as with nitrous on a "blower alone car." But, add a small shot of nitrous on a blower car and you can easily peg the torque numbers on a dyno graph. We could have added a lot more torque in the lower rpm band on Gerald's car by adding a more aggressive boost/map level. Gerald's car is not our biggest, most powerful system, but it's not a sled either
smile.gif
. As soon as we finish Scott's car (with Scott's permission) we'll post his dyno graph for a nitrous/blower IC car.

Best Regards,
Doug

'VIPERESS' - I like affection, well accepted! IMHO when Gerald gets past 4 lbs of boost he'll be on his way to a new addiction.

Marc - At 5,700 rpm the car was still pulling and making power. I suppose I could have pushed to the limit and made the dyno numbers go higher, but I'd rather let the customer push their own car to the limits. Sitting still on a dyno with limited air passing through the IC and blower doesn't simulate "real world conditions." I know you understand.
BTW -- Gerald's car has the stock bottom end.

Thanks for your input!
Doug

). I'll be heading out of town but WILL BE COMING TO GANDY THE 23rd if I have to bring a freaking 10 speed (I'm tired of carrying Chucks hat around with me). I'll be getting into Dougs shop about 10am and coming straight over from there. So here is what we will need:

1. A place for Scott and the beast (car) to stay (a hotel close to the action).

Dude -

This is absolutely SICK!!!!

I can't believe the power in that car!

Now I am motivated to send mine back to doug for more work.

And I am motivated to tighten my blower belt.

Sick, dude... sick.

Congrats Doug Levin Motorsports ........... Looking back at Motor Trend's May 2001 issue, Hennessy only made 830 horsepower on his twin turbo car. That comes up short for DLM's Level II car making over 850 horsepower after driving it OVER 20 miles and dynoing with a heat soaked engine in the Florida heat! What amazes me, this is a production car that DLM builds (NOT a one-off) and this is not even their biggest package!!!

Sorry for the rant, but HMS should have kept his trap shut bragging about how much better his turbo car is over a DLM SC car.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY CAR IS STUPID!!! HOLY ****!!!

OH MY GOD... YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT FEELS LIKE.. I"m in 3rh and 4th gear and it's breaks the tires loose.... SICK... #$*U@#$@#@

Max, your so right, what people also don't know is that my car makes more towards 800 RHWP in street driving conditions.... (with air going across the intercooler)

That's OVER 900+ at the motor on S/C only. This isn't even the BIGGEST package DLM makes..... Gimme that number for Motortrend and well show them a real world everyday driving car that didn't get TOWED TO THE DYNO SHOP but was DRIVEN to the DYNO shop. If Doug would only allow them to do it this time. (He's very shy and has turned MANY magazine articles offers down)

I think I'll put a decal on the side of this car called
GERBIL 900+R
Imagine a LITTLE tickle of a 75 HP shot of NO2 to "help it get out of the hole" as someone put it.

WOW!!

Dan,

I can't describe it. When I first got in the car to pull away from my house, I slipped it into 1st gear. As normal I went up to a good idle to slowly release the clutch, I think I spun sideway and the only thing I could do is laugh. I normally drove the car down my long road and went to 2nd. I looked over at my g.f. and I think her recently modded D cups went back down to the original B size. She wasn't very happy.
cool.gif

My 1st s/c wasn't even comparable to this car. Kind of like Monica Lewisky compared to Britanny Spears.
Simply put, I can't put it into writing. 750 to 800 RWHP is just plain STUPID..
It seems as if this is the latest in technology from DLM. It's so compact and I can't beleive by looking at the engine it produces that kind of HP. Unreal.
