Re: Drag racing is a man\'s sport...
Jesus... I don't even know where to start with this one.
All joking aside, (not sure how serious you are, hope i'm not looking like a total *** here) Is to honestly hit up a driving school. People can tell you tons of stuff but untill you try it first hand you will never know exactly what to do.
The best advice I can give you is Lots of seat time in the same circumstances in which you will race. If you wanna be a bad *** on the street, then learn to drive you car on street tires.
As for the other things it's really hard to say w/o knowing what kind of experience you have and what your intentions/expectations are.
Honestly I think the biggest mistake people make in vipers is not reving them high enough off the line. Reason being is that you can modulate wheel spin with the clutch MUCH easier with the clutch than the motor. And if you somehow mess up, if you over clutch it there is a simple fix.. let off the clutch... if you bog the motor well it's a lost cause. Depending on the circumstances both cases could be a total loss, but less likely in the former than the later.
Most of all, make runs, and lots of them... try things and see what fits your driving style. What works for one person may be horrible for another.
example: I had the very distinct pleasure of takiing a ride with the late P Mum, just once. First thing I learned was that he had more talent/experience sitting in the ash tray of his car than I could ever hope to aquire in all my years of practice. 2nd and most important was that we have very very different driving styles. I drive much more like a dirt track guy, steering the car with the outside rear wheel, where he was very very smooth and controlled. All I can say is try different things, and develope the style thats comfortable FOR YOU, in YOUR CAR.
