Driver outside door button stopped functioning after I washed the car. Still opens from the inside fine. 2001 sapphire blue w/stripes gts.

I have done some searches on the topic and it looks like the general consensus is that the wiring is probably worn and should be re soldered. Any advice or feedback otherwise? Is it easy to take off the panel necessary to check?

Thanks, Gavin

Blow water out of button with compressed air. Squirt WD40 in. Repeat air. Repeat WD40. If that no workie then wires or switches. Probably switch since the inside release works.

Curious how the car color helps us...

Not necessarily, my outside door button stoped working and the inside, like yours was fine. It ended up being a broken wire just inside the rubber grommet between the door. Mine was the pink wire with a black or gray strip.

ETA: Mine is a 2002 GTS.

I did just check the wiring diagrams and at least for a 2001 year car the 2 switches - interior and exterior - have separate wires from themselves to the EEM. So it could be a wire as well as a switch.

Gavin, pull the wire boot off that runs from your door to the car. You will have to open the door all the way. This is a common problem with Vipers. I have re-wired 7 wires on my driver door myself. The wiring is pretty simple, all of it is color coded. just splice in some extra wire and get some good crip style butt splices.

I have a Sapphire car and was under the impression that because of the rarity and unearthly beauty of Sapphire these kind of things didnt happen?

My mirrors did the same thing never fixed because objects(corvettes) in the mirror are irrelevant!!!

Oops... Who sent this ugly blue color? Oh well, maybe someone will buy one. Load up the guns boyz, we're shootin' nasty blue today!

ended up using some crimp on pigtails connections, was a tight fit, wouldnt be suprised if another wire fails on me someday from how the wires are crammed in there.

bottom line is the door button is back working again - im a happy camper.

and i included the color simply so there was a mental picture - since my sig still says enthusiast etc.

once again appreciate the help

My driver side door won't open from inside or outside on our 2001 ACR. Is there any way to get the door open?

Open your passenger door so that you can see where the manual "emergency" release handle is. Its at the rear of the door accessible from the inside, and is up on the stanchion. (The same thing that the outside button is on.)

So, on the driver's side, you can open the door from the outside by opening the hatch and reaching in and pulling on the driver's door emergency latch handle now that you know where to find it by feeling around for it.

This a really common issue on the 1996-2002 cars. The door wiring harness is no longer available. Best to replace, all the wires in the area where the harness moves back and forth when you open the door.
