Periodically I like to check to see if anyone has developed, by intent or otherwise, an ability to drive a wooden stake through the heart of interior resonance.

Since I tend to drive my GTS for long distances, drone is particularly annoying.... Any new ideas out there?

Ron -
Obviously, it depends on the rear exhaust system assembly. I've swapped out Borla for Corsa to alleviate some of the noise. Some people install an "H" pipe and some install a rear resonator. One good simple fix - Try using a rear cargo cover. It will eliminate some of the resonance, It made mine go from "very annoying" to "annoying."

Good Luck!

I HAVE Zero DRONE. Corsa 3 incher and High flow cats. The drone is gone. All I hear is tire noise on the road. At WOT it howls.

Are you still using the factory exhaust?

The factory drone is pretty bad.

Good luck.

I have the factory exhaust with an "H" pipe instead of the rear muffler. Nice sound, bad drone. Worse without the H though.

I don't want more volume, so I question the Hi-Flow cat idea and not ready to spend the bucks on a 3" setup yet. Was looking for a low buck solution, which perhaps there isn't.

Thanks

I would leave the cats and just cut the mufflers off. It would be a little louder but there would be no drone.

Although I think I paid under 2 grand for the corsa.

I'm the guy that purchased your snake oyl rear sub from you. I only kept them on the Viper about 3 weeks because of the terrible drone. After that I installed the Corsa 2 1/2 cat back and high flow cats (Jon B). The Corsa alone eliminated the drone and the cats made it a little louder and cooler. At crusing RPM it's not that loud. This winter I'm hoping for headers and a Corsa 3" system.

Ron,

Now that Corsa has a 3" system I suspect you could get a used 2 1/2" setup pretty cheap. I only paid $700 for my used Borla cat-back and I love it. Give jonB a call...

My solution was to add some lightweight sound absorbing material in the cabin. Check out the Auralex products www.auralex.com. Any professional sound shop probably carries or can get their stuff.

The question would be where to place it?

I'd guess we'd need to figure out the source of the drone (side sills perhaps?) in order to avoid coating the entire interior.

Anyone have any ideas?

Does anybody use 6th gear? I use it all the time on the highway and with my rear X-pipe, there is no annoying drone.

The fact is that there are different rpm ranges where various exhaust systems have unpleasant harmonics. If it bothers you, shift gears. Probably the worst setup is 2 straight pipes where the muffler used to be.

One of the largest contributors to the drone is the "drum" like behavior of the sill area that separates the cockpit from the trunk area in the GTS. Padding both the top and the back of this area greatly reduces the energy being transmitted into the cabin. Rap on it with your knuckles and you'll hear what I mean. It acts like a big speaker in the cabin.

Which explains why you're shouting in your post... having a little trouble hearing are we?
