Dynoed my car this afternoon to see how my earlier pre Vec2 set up compared to the vec2 set up. I ran my below 1/4 mile numbers with the msd pulling out .5 degrees of timing per psi and 100 octane fuel. I dont think the msd starts removing timing until passing 2 degrees. The A/F with the msd was waaaaaaay lean...some people would have been taking cover. With the vec2 I pulled out 6 degrees maximum on one pull and 2 degrees maximum on the other. All three runs were on 100 octane unleaded. I probably lost a little power by using 100 octane with the 6 degree tune but it was easier than swapping fuel at the dyno. I normally run the 6 degree tune with 93 octane and zero detonation. I haven't tryed more timing with 93 octane yet. Before everybody freaks out, these pulls were on a Mustang dyno. By looking at the same vehicles on the two dynos if you multiply Mustang numbers by 1.15 then that would ballpark Dynojet numbers. If using that formula my best today was 635hp and 665tq. Even if they were a little less on a Dynojet I was still pleased. I can see them being correct based on et slips. Yes...the numbers are corrected.

......................................... HP ............... TQ
msd:......................... 531 @ 5500 ... 562 @ 3700
Vec2 @ 6 degrees ... 521 @ 5600 ... 549 @ 3500
Vec2 @ 2 degrees ... 552 @ 5700 ... 579 @ 3400 torque on this one was above 500 from 1940 rpm through 5760

Did that rear ground help any? 2 degrees has a higher hp & torque than 6 degrees because amount of less retard..... not sure if others would have picked up on that. Nice numbers Tony!

Hi Tony. Great numbers I will also be going to the dyno on Thursday. What was your air / fuel on each run? I would like to know to see if I am in the ball park. Thanks

Great numbers. My dyno run was on Sunoco 94 octane & the 94 octane VEC2 card with a Dynojet (SAE corrected) and it looks like your 93 octane 6 degree tune had similar numbers as my run when you add in the 1.15 conversion factor for the Mustang dyno. My torque peaked at a lower RPM and my HP peaked at a higher RPM than yours, probably due to engine & mod differences (I run with cats.)

Sean has improved the VEC2 since my dyno run and I'll send my unit & program cards back to him next week for the upgrade. He's also discovered a better model of sparkplug, which I've already installed & it runs better in the seat-of-the-pants.

If my gas mileage is good enough and I have enough 105 octane unleaded race gas when I get back from Viper Days, I'll add a tiny bit of Sunoco 94 octane gas to get my tank to 100 octane and put in my upgraded 100 octane program card in my upgraded VEC2 and do a dyno pull and see how close our Vipers are in Roe Power.

1Tony1,

What brand of headers/exhaust are you using? Also, have you found any drawbacks to going catless? Mainly, the exhaust fume smell.

I have a set of 5 into 1 custom Henesy Headers (bought used) and a 3' Corsa, that will be installed when the SC goes on my '98 GTS. I also have a pair of Roe high-flow cats, but am debating whether I should put them on....

UTAHVIPER....no spray yet.

one rare....headers are whatever hennesssy was using, I thought the were B&B but that may not be correct. Exhaust is two race mufflers in each side sill with 3" out the rear. I would rather have cats but early on we had cat temp problems with the s/c....I believe the vec2 took care of that.

Larry, I really look forward to meeting you guys also. The best is below in my sig. That was with the msd so now with a little more power and a better sixty foot with different tires I am lookin for a better et and mph. Looks like my Friday night TnT may be rained out :(

Thanks for doing and sharing Tony, great stuff. I agree, I was curling up at how lean when going to WOT mine ran pre VEC2. When I fitted the VEC2 with 6D removed it felt down on power, so I tried a 3D and power felt better. (Now to perfect the VEC2!!). UK octane #'s differ from USA measured, but my high octane gas equates to about a US 93.

Am I the only one who thinks the numbers look low? I thought that the Roe S/C cars are close to 600 at the wheels +/- 20 or so. Hey Tony, by the MPH on your 1/4 time, (calculating about 3700lbs for the car, driver and 1/2 tank of gas), shouldn't your numbers be in the low 600's? I know there was a formula based on MPH in the 1/4, but can't seem to find it!

Same dyno before the s/c was 402 hp best out of three pulls. I will have to look back to get the tq numbers. So I gained 150 hp with the s/c....then you would multiply times 1.15 to get the gain on a Dynojet. Mike read the part about Mustang vs Dynojet numbers. Maybe it was just the Al. air that day :)
