Has anyone dyno'd on a Mustang Dyno? It supposedly gives lower numbers than a Dynojet. Anyone's numbers on a Mustang Dynamometer would be greatly appreciated.

I dyno'd mine on a Mustang dyno last year. Numbers were on the disappointing side, but don't know if it was the dyno or the car. Completely stock at 1000 miles, my '01 GTS dyno'd 396HP / 414TQ SAE corrected down since it was a cool day. Torque in particular seemed way low.

I did make a couple of mistakes which may have affected the dyno numbers, like running with the hood fully open, which probably blocked the cooling fan from getting any cool air to the intake. The engine was also on the warm side. Now that I have a few mods and more miles, I'd like to get back down and check it again on another dyno to compare.

Thanks a lot Ken, I appreciate the response. Mine are more than disappointing, I think something is very wrong. My car dyno'd 322 RWHP and 382 torque. I think the torque numbers are reasonable but the HP seems very low. They did dyno it with the hood open, left it idling forever and it was very warm. The fan they had couldn't blow as hard...well never mind. But I've drag raced my car and had 12 second runs so this dyno result doesn't make sense to me. Especially on a Gen I car that is heavy. I must be making more HP and Torque than this thing is registering. After everything is said and done I guess its good to dyno just to compare with myself on mods but it makes it impossible to compare to others if the dyno is wrong. If you dyno on a dynojet and compare numbers I sure would like to hear them. I think the Mustang Dyno is VERY conservative. Even with a Nitrous shot I was still under 400 RWHP and just over 400 in torque. Those numbers just don't make sense because I have run low 11's on Nitrous and just don't think that would be possible with less than 400 HP with the weight of my car. I would need 1 second 60' times to do that and believe me I don't hook up that well!

Another piece of info to support my theory is that my numbers as pathetic as they were, were still the highest this place had seen. A supercharged extremely modified Camaro that runs low 11's ET's only registered 330 RWHP on their machine. 2001 Corvettes were registering under 300 RWHP on this dyno.

Can anyone confirm that this machine is screwed or that I'm spinning on the dyno, or my gear ratio makes a difference or that I've somehow managed to defy the laws of physics and got a 4000 pound car to go into the 11's on very little HP!

phiebert,

In my city all we seem to have are these mustang dyno's. Mostky MD-250's. From wha I understand about these is that they are more of a tuning dyno and that they calculate HP differently than a dynojet does. A dynojet simply calculates yor HP based on how quickly you accelerate their drum x the weight of thedrum x the circumference of he drum. The Mustang dyno's operate more like an engine dyno and are always putting a load on the car. Ask your dyno shop to give you a readout of total torque applied to the roller and the rpm that it is at and then you might be able to calculate the HP comparable to a dynojet. Just take Torque x RPM and divide by 5252 and that should give you HP at that RPM.

My 2000 ACR on a mustang Dyno uncorrected at about 5000ft in El Paso put out 311hp to the wheels (100% stock). I thought is was very good uncorrected, there was a 2002 ZO-6 there with some bolt-on's that only did 261 at the wheels, and a 5.0L mustang with a Blower on it that only made 186

I then put 436 to the wheels on a 150shot of NOS

My car ran 12.44@117mph 100% stock in Roswell at 3600ft
and 11.74@127 on a 150 shot...

when I dynoed recently, the guy doing it was very meticulous about trying to have the intake runner temp the same each time, he used a laser pyrometer to check. It was a hot day so we had to wait long periods between runs for it to cool even with a big blower fan and the hood open. Theoretically this makes sense to me. Idling would not help you...then again I was paying by the hour so who knows? I too have heard the Mustangs seem to always be lower.
