Anyone want some info on the 96 [******] 700 on ebay?

I'm the new guy here that posted earlier about looking for opinions on a 92 Viper. Looking to get into my first Viper, but those 96/97 Blue/White GTS's are irresistible. Checked out the above auction and fell in love with the car. Yeah, I've read all about [******] here, but how can someone put $140,000-150,000 into a car and sell it for no reserve which is at $47,000 now? I only live 10 minutes from this car and for $50-55K, I was gonna buy that car. I'm not a Viper specialist, but the car looked like at least a 95 point car. Very, very nice, at least to me. Bottom line: It ain't gonna happen at $50k. Salesman said, "Pay for the options and get the car for free." Price: $85K. Salesman said there was a reserve, but I said that the auction did not state that, but he said they do have the right to withdraw the car at any time. So for all you last second ebay snipers (which includes me), I don't think you are gonna get this car "for cheap". Thought I'd let the others know here that nobody is stealing this car tonight.

Man, you guys must really like that "Hen" guy, as this board won't even allow his name to be in print. No big deal to me, but here is just a thought. The auction does say in big bold letters at the top, "No Reserve", so it is possible that the salesman was trying to make a monster profit by trying to sell it to me for $85k. Maybe they will sell it for the high bid at the close of the auction, as it may be on consignment and who knows, someone may need to be financially out of that car, at any price. I'm just passing on some info from my own personal experience talking to this salesman. Good luck snipers!

Someone else posted askin' about this car. General concensus was not to pay any more than a bone stocker same year. In fact, less than a stock 96.

With 2 hours left to go, they shut down the auction. I guess they did want $85k for the car. It was (is) a great car but too much dinero for me.

For all who complain about deadbeat bidders on Ebay, this certainly points a finger back at deadbeat sellers. Why list a Viper with NO RESERVE and then close the auction two hours before ending - just as Gerald had predicted?

$85K is a more than fair price for that car. You guys with a problem with Venoms need to wise up. That car will be sold at $85K and the buyer will be very happy with the deal and kick the a$$ of every stocker out there and most other modded cars. Get real!

I agree! No reserve price means sold at final price regardless of the loss (or gain). I'm not an Ebay expert, but I believe the seller could be banned from using Ebay services if it's brought to their attention. The Dealer could always say it was sold... but they should have to prove it.

Ebay is a business enterprise and does not screen or enforce legal rules of commerce. Why do you think every time someone has a Viper part stolden the first thing they do is alert this board and ask everyone to keep a lookout on Ebay for it? IMO Ebay probably facilitates more scams and the movement of more stolden property than all the illegal fencing operations combined. Buyer beware! I wouldn't buy Ebay stock either. Eventually, this issue is going to cause them legal problems.

Doesn't work like that in ebay land...

I've contacted them before for the same situation with a seller that pulled the no reserve crap on all his auctions and then closed the auctions down right before they ended....

They informed me that the seller reserves the right to cancel an auction at any time for any reason...

Apparently ebay has a real problem with buyers that don't live up to their end of the deal, but it's perfectly acceptable for the sellers not to...

While I agree that 85k may be a bit steep.....It is certainly worth more than a stock '96. Some of you have been smoking CRACK.

But to each his own, if you want a stock car, then a stock car is worth more to you. I know all the work, time, and quality parts that went into my 650R - and I'll tell you, to me it is worth more than a stocker!

I'm looking into a Lingenfelter modified car. It's got a pretty hefty list of modifications, probably $80k or so. I'd hate to buy it and find that it's worth no more than a stck car!

Yeah, I noticed Doug is using my name. Maybe he'll give me a free SC for borrowing my last name. Now all I need is the Viper to put that SC on. That is why I am here. To learn before I buy, which is unusual for me as I usually buy and then wonder what the heck was I thinking.

Did I see somewhere that Doug is also "Dr. Levin"? If so, then I'm really mad, as this board should only have one Dr. Levin and that is yours truly. I wonder what his real last name is? I think I may have to ask him to quit using my last name. Or maybe I'll challenge him on the 1/4 mi, winner continues with use of the name. I'm sure my 88 BMW M6 250rwhp will scare him.

It's rediculous to list this as a no reserve and shut it down early - just because they did not get their price. I looked at the detailed terms and conditions to see if it had the "This is a legally binding contract language" that some of the dealers put in their ads - which it does not. My thought process was this - if I was a lawyer, and was tired of this abuse - I would try to enforce that legally binding contract terminology. If you were the high bidder when they shut it down and the car was still available - would you have not had "a legally binding contract"? Just my $0.02.

What is interesting about this auction is that the bidding started only 12 hours ago at $20,000 and in a half day it is now up to $54,000. His last auction took 7 days to reach $47,200 before it was shut down with 2 hours to go. Makes you wonder?

You're wasting your time. Ebay is in it for the money and will not take the time or energy to address the legal responsibilities of sellers or the complaints of potential buyers as long as they are making money.

Yeah, Strange how the last auction, the car brought 48k after a week. Now this time, the auction goes to 62k in the first 12 hours. Also, 2 bids were retracted and now its back to $54k. Hard to get interested in a car knowing that the rug can be pulled right from underneath you....
