I like to window shop on EBAY on a daily basis. I, like lot of others, have several "my favorite" categories. I have one to look at all the viper stuff out there.

Over the past couple of weeks there are a couple of real dick heads out there advertising set after set after set of 17" and 18" viper tire and wheels combos.

The price is has either been 600.00 for the set or $50.00 for the set starting bids. This weekend has hatched another batch, this time starting out at $550.00. Its the usual user ID private auction.

I wrote EBAY about this stating that there aren't that many viper wheel combos around to have that many auctions and folks like this are really contributing to what I call "auction SPAM". It interferes with those trying to conduct legit auctions, and those trying to view the legit auctions through all of the scam ones.

They replied and said as long as no one has been cheated, no harm no foul.

Well thanks for letting me vent.....

The whole internet is getting so full of spam and scams that it is really beginning to lose value.

I get at least three a day of those emails from the third world, wanting to do some money transfer scam.

Anyone who advertises anything will get the "big check, you refund some", scam.

Ebay is filled with outright scams and misrepresented items.

Like I said, it wont take long before this reaches the point of overload.

Ebay don't give a rats about their customers.

When someone does get cheated what do they do? Not our problem...How many people do you know who have actually compensated from Ebay?

You would have to say that they are neither proactive or reactive, so what are they?

They are providing a service but not Customer Service, that's all they are doing.

I simple don't buy or sell there. You can buy anything they have from alternate sources, and many times it is actually cheaper.
Traditional selling will make a comeback when people are sick of being burnt.

When people start leaving EBAY in droves, then they will try to correct the problem.

While I don't want to get too off topic, I agree with the above posts 100%. Having been on eBay almost every day since early 1996 as a buyer and seller, I get a little nauseated when I see Meg Whitman's (CEO) picture gracing yet another publication. Make no mistake, eBay is certainly one of the biggest Internet success stories and probably the most profitable. However, a monkey could run it as well as the current management and have the same levels of success. Whitman was a toy marketer for a company whose sales were already dropping like a rock. She has ridden this Model T of auction services as the only car in the race and does little to improve it. This is not brain surgery, this was simply a matter of being first to market. Buyers flock to eBay in droves, so where do the sellers congregate? eBay of course. I have been approached by other auction services and even tried a few as a seller. They simply don't have the traffic or interest. So I am stuck with an incredibly egotistical company that really doesn't care about it's customers unless they sell in excess of $1,000,000 a year.

The bottom line is that eBay can skate by on crappy customer service (unlike when I used to get e-mails from the founder) and people will continue to use the service. Including scammers by the boatload. eBay can be one of the most frustrating venues on the Internet on a variety of fronts. But when you are essentially the only game in town...

You can also forget reporting any fraud to their Safe Harbor department. You will get a form letter response saying they investigated your complaint and found insufficient evidence to take action. I sent in a dummy complaint with no information and got the same response.
