Re: Effect of \"Smooth Tubes\"?

If you look at the factory tubes, they are corrugated (unless you have an ACR). That will disrupt the flow of air. The smooth tubes correct this.

This alone does not help you much, but when combined with hi-flow air filters, it can net you a quoted 10HP.

The goal is to get the engine to breath easier.

That is also the side effect

Michael,
The "smooth tubes" with the K&N filters help together to impove the air flow into the intake. The "smooth tubes"are smooth inside to flow the air strighter into the intake. It also makes the viper sound better, you should get around 8-10 hp from a gen 2 Viper along with better throttle response also.

Those are just K&N air filters in a Mopar box. Cheaper to buy K&N brand at discount places or get filters from www.roeracingonline.com

fit is fine and the power increase and sound is way better than stock ones

I see also that on its website Mopar has:

#P4876095 Air Filter Element

in its Viper Performance section.

- Does it fit right into the stock air filter housing?

- Is it sensible to replace the stock air filter with
this one, if I go ahead and do the smooth tubes?Michael

Smooth Tubes, no hp gain no torque.

K&N filters are the best ban for the $$. We changed filters with a GEN I on a dyno and it gained 11hp.

Re: Effect of \"Smooth Tubes\"?

Did anyone ever try a dyno run doing a comparison of stock tubes and filters against just open throttle body? Is there some sensor up there that would need to be fooled?
Seems like a car at the dragstrip could run without the tubes or filter. Perhaps just a screen to keep out birds and large stones. I guess there might be a need for filters at the drags when you drive back into some of the parking areas.
How about a spring loaded bypass that would let screened but unfiltered air into the intakes when there was a low pressure due to high RPM open throttle?
Did anyone ever try a tuned air box like the bikes use? It would probably need to be very large.
