With all these mishaps, I haven't taken the car out for three days, I guess I am waiting for the stars to realign properly. Looking and rubbing on it is enough for now.

Tomer,
Stuff happens. When I had an incident at Watkins Glen, I felt like such an idiot. I could not believe I made such a stupid mistake. I kept saying "it was such a dumb thing to do". Well, I finally realized that no one ever gets into an accident and says "I made a real smart move and wrecked my car..." Admit the mistake, learn from it and get over it. It happens to everyone - its just more visible when you are driving a Viper.

Parts costs are a true sobering experience. All those HUGE plastic pieces so not come cheap - even the light assemblies are expensive - and holy crap - don't break one of the internal big plastic pieces like the radiator core support.. If you mashed the back end, you should have better luck finding butt end parts - as most Vipers do go nose first into stuff. Talk to JonB about what is available. Make sure your body shop has state of the art frame straighening and alignment capabilities. Maybe you can get some used bumper pieces - I can only imagine th ecost of the rear bumper cover - that thing is huge...

Good luck - hang in there - we all make mistakes.

I needed that!

Does anyone know in California if it is legal for the insurance
company to pay me for the estimated repair cost, then I buy some or all used parts and pocket the difference (savings?)

Tomer..
PS Now thinking about telling my family about what happened...They are gonna wonder why my Viper is not in my garage for like 3-4 weeks...

I think it is legal, but 'insurance fraud' could be involved if you AGAIN wreck the car and expect new parts in accident #2.

What year is your car? I know of a Gen1 viper that was totalled on the front but still perfect on the rear. I might be able to get you a real good deal.

I'm talking about my car, which is in Wilmington, NC. The rear qtrs, lid,etc are untouched. I don't know how long it will take me to get the insurance settled or what they will want for the leftovers. I'll keep you posted if you are interested.

Thanks for all your support after my crash on 11/18....Fortunately I hit the back end, I spun the back end on an on ramp...

I have two comments/questions. First, how does one get past the bruising to his/her ego...I don't even want to tell my wife's family, nor mine, due to the embarrassment I feel...It totally *****. I have no one to blame but me, I was obviously going too fast, and ended up off the road because of it...

Second, the damage to the rear is not too bad, but the cost of parts is CRAZY...I know we have exotic cars, but an estimated $20K in parts for bumper, 1/4 panel, deck lid, maybe a wheel, trunk pan, bracketry, etc...maybe a side sill, I expect it to be expensive, but almost the slightest damage could result in a total, especially for an older car.

The Insurance Co told me that if the cost of repairs plus salvage value is close to actual cash value, they total it out. SO for a viper valued at 40-50K, its easy to result in a total even without too much damage...

My shop is doing the rear end tear down now, they should have a detailed estimate in a few days, but I expect its repairable and they think at most the upper rear frame rail may be tweeked a little, should be able to straighten...

Tomer
PS Still not telling my friends what happened...
