Either I am going deaf or my car is sounding quieter...

Seems that my car is not as loud as it used to be. Do I have a problem?

My 2000 GTS doesn't seem to be running rough, but at idle it is much more quiet as well as at WOT. All plug wires are on tight. No strange back fire. No leaks in the exhaust. Seat of the pants dyno doesn't seem to be any different than before. Could it be a fouled or bad injector? Would it throw a warning light if it was?

I'm a bit concerned.

Thanks,

Ulysses

You didn't just fill the gas tank up did you. The cabin is much
quieter on a full tank than an empty.

I swear my car just suddenly got quieter about 2-3 weeks ago. I thought I was just hearing things.

What's interesting about the viper is to try to figure out where the noise comes from. I put a microphone around the exhaust and there's not much noise that comes out from there.

The Viper is interesting in that I think it may be louder inside the car than outside.

One could potentially think that some hanger off of the exhaust transmits through vibration the sound into the cabin, and if it gets loose or breaks, the cabin sound could drop down in intensity.

I noted no change in performance in my car, but as Ulysses has noted I have noted a change in the sound. Its really wierd.

I have 22,000 miles on a Silver 98 GTS. I noted it about 2 to 3 weeks ago.

Ran the gas down in the tank to half full. Guess what? It's back to being loud again. WEIRD!! (well.... not weird if you think about it)

Thanks lleone

FYI: When a Catalytic converter breaks (honey comb ceramic material) it will partially block the exhaust and make it quieter.

Maybe yours is just a full tank of gas.

yeah, that was one of the things I checked for right off the bat, but the exhaust had strong pressure from both exhaust ports.

My GTS is definitely louder inside than out. There are several reasons for this, one being resonance from a partially filled gas tank. I have done a fair bit of sound insulating as it was just way too lound for me. I bought a used 2000 that already had the HMS headers and pipes on it. No cats, no muffler. On one hand, I love the setup, on the other, my wife and I can't tolerate the noise. Flame away if you like, but it really is just too much in the cabin. I've been stufy the body section in the service manual and am contemplating opening up the trunk pan and directly insulating the gas tank.

One reason I really like the Corsa is somewhat quiet inside, screams outside. Little drone is also a huge bonus....

I think some people mistaken the Corsa to be a quiet exhaust, but if you stand outside the car, it is pretty loud. Especially with high-flow/no cats. And when you step on it, it is very loud, IMHO. You just don't get beat up on the inside...
