Has this ever happened to anybody else? I was lucky enough to pull up in front of a house my wife had to do business at, and the guy had a real nice candy apple red convertible vette out front. Well of course the next 1/2 hour everybody around the neighborhood came out to see a car that is nicer than this guy's vette, and after everybody talked about how great my car was, they wanted to see under the hood. Everything was great until I went to close the hood. I got the usual towell out of the trunk to close it, and then it HAPPENED. The hood got jammed crooked when I closed it. I did not do anything wrong! I think it was because the street was slanted towards the curb? Anyway , all of the vette guys started making jokes about how we could not unstick the stupid hood. I was so humiliated. I had to finally tell everyone to get their paws off my car, and I limped home and fixed it in my garage. Does this happen to anyone else? And if it does, how do you unstick it, like it was no big deal in front of vette owners? Thanks Dennis Kimball

I would blow it off...who cares what a Vette owner thinks about your Viper...look at it this way.. you have a hot viper and a hot girl!

Vette owners for the most part I've seen, are decent people who respect the viper. But the ones who don't..they rank with the camaro, mustang and firebird owners....ones that have not pass the 3rd grade level.

The first month or so of owning the car I had several occasions like that with the hood getting jammed while trying to close it. The remedy I found was to push the hood gently nearly all the way closed, then lift it back open a few inches. Now you can push it vigorously to shut it. This takes out the pre-loaded tension of the springs from having it open and aligns the latching mechanisms. Now you can show off that gorgeous engine and slam that lid shut like you're ready to kick some *** .

Wayne, why don't you just ride around in Dennis' trunk and jump out to close the hood whenever he needs it?

If the hood is closed without being properly seated on both sides, the plastic part in the latch can break, requiring the whole latch assembly to be replaced. This can occur if the car is on uneven or slated ground, when closing the hood. At one time K&P Engineering made a replacement part for the plastic, made of metal, so that the latch can be repaired. The phone is: 303-697-5821.

Ab, watch it, that's his daughter pictured in his Avatar, not his wife.

Dennis-
What may have happened is that your driver side latch did not catch the hook on the underside of the hood. When you tried to shut it the latch was pushed down and did not lock. Did the driver side pop back up and the passenger side close?
Bring it by and I can check to make sure it is aligned and adjusted properly.

When closing the hood, close it slowly and feel to make sure the latch catches. Once it does then you can close it.

Take Care.
