I am in the process of having my upper end done,
heads, cam, t&d's, extrude hone etc. and decided
to detail the engine. I got a little carried away
and polished my alternator, water pump etc. Also
going to powdercoat the intake, valve covers to match
the exterior color. I have done the steel braided
lines and Aeroquip, XRP and Earls have high quality
products and a good selection. Much better than Pep
Boys. The hardest part is getting the correct size
hose. I used XRP because my local speed shop stocks
the full line. Wouldn't recommend mail order because
it took me several trips and returns to get everything
to fit. Steel braid doesn't stretch like rubber and
the sizing is critical. I measured with a dial caliper.
Make sure to measure the barb diameter (the largest
diameter that the hose has to fit over). The hose sizes
are a little weird, ie. -6. Aeroquip has a good conversion
table on their website. You also have choices of type and
color of fittings - anodized aluminum in blue, red and silver. Look at the econofit clamps that Earls sells.
A good website for Earls products is American Street Rod
in California. Once you get the proper sized hose and
fittings, all you need is a hacksaw and open end wrenches
to tighten the fittings and you're good to go. Best of luck!! Give me a call if you have any questions.
