small question: What do you use / how do you clean out
the lug nut areas ? I like the painted center cap.

quote:
Anyway, here is the situation-- With the AC off I can drive all day long at any rpm and the engine temp stays in the range of 190 to 200. As soon as I turn the AC on, the engine temp will remain in the same range as long as I keep the rpms less than 2k. As soon as I start getting on it in any way, the engine temp starts to climb immediately and will run up to 225 or 230(and I mean in 10 secs or so). After I cruise a little at low rpms, the temps come back down.

This is normal. The service manual says so.

David, It is normal.... and even more so in this Texas heat.

Just shift into 5th or 6th and let the engine run at a lower
RPM and you should see the temp's come down... and with the
AC set to ON.

I don't think its due to A/C load as much as, it is the heat from the a/c condenser coil in front of your radiator. Grab the end of the condenser coil on a hot day (or not) with the a/c on and you will understand your fan is now pulling hot air thru the radiator when the a/c is on.
Oh yea...nice center cap.

Great looking center cap!
What paint did you use & what did you use to apply the paint?

Maybe I've been lucky so far, but my 2001 GTS does not seem to overheat. I drive a lot of stop and go traffic, hour-long commutes on hot days, and I always run the AC. I didn't had a problem with overheating on the track on a 100 degree day either. I know this isn't maybe helpful info for you, but at least it tells you it isn't always this way with a (mostly) stock Viper.

I hope I didn't just break the magic, by saying so!

If it scares you and you want to quickly bring the temp down, turn on the heater and blast it for a minute or two.. Oh, do this while your driving , or you'll melt at a stoplight..
