A bad alternator will eventually lead to a low or bad battery. A bad battery could cause the alternator to go bad. Sometimes they walk hand in hand. The thing to remember is that this car is computer controlled. What would happen to your PC if the CMOS battery was starting to lose it's charge? Things would go a little screwy, wouldn't it? Same with your car's computer.
