In southern California there must be dozens of interior upholstery shops that can make world class looking seats. But I would like to find one that specializes in ergonomics.

The 2004 seats don't fit my body, or my wife's. The only car I have driven that is so bad was a Mercury Grand Marquis that I rented.

Does anyone know of a place in Southern California that specializes in ergonomic custom upholstery?

thanks,
~Jay

I had a Kenny's Auto Upholstery shop in Mission Viejo(949)582-0183 bend out the side bolsters and shave them down a bit so I could fit in better.

What about the seats don't you like? Have you considered using the Northwind lowering kit to change the angles a bit?

What I don't like about the seats is the lack of lumbar support. I'm a small person so the bolsters aren't a problem, but the fact that there is no lower back support is.

I would also like to change the angle a bit. In a modern car with power seats I like to tilt the seat bottom a bit to keep me from slouching down.

I'll give Kenny's a call to see if they have any advice.

thanks,

I have the same problem. I took it to a shop and he put more cushion in the bottom part of the seat to raise you out of the hole a bit. He also added some cushion to the lower part of the seat back for lumbar support. However, he used too stiff of cushion and it feels like I am on a concrete seat and he put too much extra cushion in the middle back area--which pushes into my middle back and gives me a back ache. He is going to do more adjustments. I keep trying... Good luck.

That's good input. My IS350 has seats that are a great shape and support my back, but they are hard as a rock. It doesn't bother me too much, but for my 105 pound wife, it's like bone on bone.

I did see in my search a company that makes mechanical lumbar systems that can be installed in the seat. Maybe that is the way to go.

No wonder why I have a bad back, my daily is a Grand Marquis!

I'm tall so I don't have the bottom of the seat issue, but I agree they could benefit from a bit of lumbar support.

Jay,
I have used Costa Mesa Auto Upholstery 949-645-6888
He did the drivers seat in my Porsche and it made all the difference in the world.
I know Redtan had his Viper seats re-stitched there and they came out great as well.
