ET\'S ON MY FIRST OUTING

Last night I took my '01 RT/10 to the track. I didn't do anything special to the car before I ran it. The tires had 32 lbs in them. A full tank of gas. Spare tire in the trunk and off I went. I made 10 passes. 7 of them were 12.5's at 114 or 115. 2 runs I had a passenger and went high 12.6's. My best run was a 12.44 at 114.7 (60 ft was 1.96 on that run). My other 60 ft times were 2.01 to 2.08. Are these average times? I was thinking my 60 foot times were slow. It seemed the car launched best when I dropped the clutch and slammed the gas at 1300 rpms. I tried several launches from 2000 to 2500 and the car either spun a lot or bogged a little. I shifted at 6000 each time. I have seen postings of stock vipers running into the 11's. What are there secrets? Are their times at sea level? It was in the 70's last night.

Re: ET\'S ON MY FIRST OUTING

Did you have your top on or off? that will tell a lot.
i think its a pretty good run for your first time out. i got a 2.05 in the 60ft and hit 12.13 @ 118.99 stock(check the time slip on my sig), but my car comes with smooth tubes and filters. i also did not play with tire pressure.
I hope this post does not end up like mine.

J SMITH while your times are not spectacular they are not too bad. I've seen about 10 Vipers with just basic bolt on's run and none have broke into the 11's most were low 12's 115-118 I know some of the guys on this board can get 11's and 1.7-1.60 for the 60' but I have never seen it in person.

Just based on what I've seen others run I would say the 60' average is right around 2.05-1.95 and the 1/4 12.2-12.4 alot depends on the track and shifting speed. Where are you located? elevation and prep of the track?? My best 60' is 1.91 and 1/4 12.30 w/o nitrous

Pretty darn good for your first time out. More seat time & you'll be even better.

I did run with my top on. I am in central Mississippi. It's at sea level. Maybe it's the big ol' bugs I was hitting that was slowing me down.

I have had a few 11 sec. runs in my ACR. My best to date was a 11.98 at 122.My average sixty foot is 1.9. I warm the tire a little, run 25 psi and, launch at 2800rpms slipping the clutch. Like clock work 1.9's every time. My buddy on Hoosiers has pulled a 1.7. On a good day with low humidity 1.8 are very possible. **** Texas humidity!!!

Re: ET\'S ON MY FIRST OUTING

Those are quite respectable times for your first outing. I'd say (a) practice your launch and (b) practice shifting quickly. The launch will make the biggest difference on your ET, while the shifting will improve your MPH. In a stock car, I'll recommend shift points of 5900 (1-2), 5800 (2-3) and 5700 (3-4).

Regarding launch, having a fair bit of experience in this topic, that track condition and driver technique make a huge difference for street tire 60's. Example: I've run 1.90 and 2.03 using the same technique, same tire pressure, same *everything*, with the only real variable being track prep. Technique also makes a large difference: with some work I've gotten my average 60' from 2.07 to 1.98 on stock 18" tires. Obviously, I have quite a way to go

BTW, Doug Levin has been a goldmine of information, and he's helped me lower both my ET street 60' by a solid 10th (to mid-1.7s), with more to come.
