Add another stock production car record to Muscle Mustang and Fast Ford Editor Evan Smith;s resume today at Englishtown NJ on only his 2nd (and last pass of the day due to time allocations)Smith turned an 11.3 at 128.7 MPH in my totally stock 08 Roadster.(on Pilots ).The air(mid 70s ) and the track were good but far from great.Stay tuned October with the cooler weather hopefully will bring 10s

What about all these supposed 10 second runs by stock Z06s last year?
This was magazine tested (not individual- no possible way to verify individual car was 100% stock) verifyed to be 100% stock down to the tires .The best Evan got a Z06 to run was 11.49at 125.5.

Perhaps you need to say fastest magazine number ever. Heck here is an 11.22 Z06 run on streetfire.net that took minutes to find (slower mph though):

Stock C6 Z06 1/4 mile- 11.22et/127.16mph- Video

Don't make us look like presidential candidates by making claims someone on the internet can discredit with a few minutes of time.

If you read what 1BADGTS wrote, then it makes perfect sense and is credible.

Sure a 11.3 may be nothing to brag about as we know there are some vids of Z06's running 10's. But as he clearly states, this is a 3rd party, magazine test and I would trust their times much more then Rangers or Jamie Furmans. No offense to those guys, but the Mag testers usually have nothing to gain or lose when they test.
Its kinda like if I say I just went out and ran a 7:20 at the Ring in a 08 Coupe, non ACR. Who would believe me.......

Thanks Mike perfect example of this was when Smith set the Gen 2 record years ago of 11.77.Some guy from Mass claimed he ran faster totally stock.Meanwhile iam getting E-Mails from VCA Members who know the car telling me it does not have CATS -thus its not stock.I confronted the guy and he said so what it doesnt have cats.Like your post said unless its verifyed by an indep 3rd party(with nothing to gain ) everyones version of BONE STOCK may be different.Today he (Evan)had numerious cars to run (one was a MAJOR LEAGUE Top Tier Player in the automotive history.)the Viper run was kind of icing on the cake.

No offense to 1BADGTS, nor do I mean to imply any mistrust, but if they tested someone's personal vehicle and publish it, it doesn't mean anything more or less than the following-->10-second stock C6 Corvette Z06 on run flats - Autoblog
No offence taken i can tell you that Smith and his staff always check for the obvious (exhaust ect )Thats really the only thing you can do to the 08.I bought the car from site sponser Buhler Auto Group(its actually at Buhler getting cleaned ).Iam sure if you were to call Darren at the dealership he will verify the car is totally stock

PS knowing how skilled Jamie (Furman )is behind the wheel i dont doubt he made a 10 second pass in a stock Z06 in 40 degree weather.Time will tell if Smith is able to do the same in the dsame weather conditions. All in all 11.3s are not too bad in 75 degree weather.

I've raced RANGER and Believe me he is a very credible
guy. RANGER'S car at the time he was making runs for
the best 1/4 time 100 % STOCK. He did make runs on
DR'S but told everyone when he posted his time what
tires he had for that run.

RANGER DID IT, PERIOD. STOCK RUNS

I look forward to having a chance to run in the 10's if
a car becomes available. It can and will be done.:2tu:

For those of you that aren't familiar with Evan Smith, he is well known in the magazine circles as an excellent quarter-mile driver. Evan is a tell-it-like-it-is guy also, which makes his tests very interesting to read. Most people would tend to rag on typical magazine drivers, but Evan isn't like the typical wussified magazine driver.

He also put a bone stock LS1 Camaro into the 12s back in 1998. Then he proceeded to write a nice article in his Mustang magazine about the Camaro, and how it kicked ass and that new Mustangs were too slow. lol

^ I agree... nothing to brag about just yet. It should happen eventually though with '08s making 540+ rwhp.

Its really kind of irrelevant IMO.

Track prep, wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, incline of the track (some are uphill or downhill), age of the tires, and a million other variables have to be "just right" to get that record run. Not to mention that his LS7 might just be a bit stronger than others (deck height, cam timing, and other things vary from engine to engine).

The best way to compare two cars isn't by comparing the outliners, its by comparing the average results. I think its pretty clear that in all tests of a Viper vs. Z06 on the same day, with the same driver, the Viper is a bit faster.

Anyways, it would be easy to give a C6 Z06 more power while looking "stock". Stock-class racers have been doing this for decades ;) I'd start with a sleeper cam and a reflash. Raising the car up as high as it will go (to improve weight transfer) and zeroing out the rear camber could help a lot too.

Also, it sounds like a stock ACR could run 10s more easily. Maybe I'll give it a shot when I get my car. The MPH probably wouldn't be quite as good unless some of the aero bits were removed, though.

We will definately try again in cooler weather.(to beat the hell out of the car yesterday to pick up a tenth was not worth it to me)As far individuals besting an official published time or record from an official standpoint how do you authenticate the individuals car was 100% stock(with a z06 there are so many sleeper mods out there -computer reflashes ect how can anyone possible vouch a certain car is stock. If you reflash the computer to get 15 more horsepower it is not stock )A good analogy would be a guy taking his own ZR-1 over to the Ring and beating the ACR time with no documentation on the car other than people that were there seeing it.That would not hold up as a published record.Personally as i said earlyier i truely believe Jamie Furman ran 10s in a bone stock Z06 .Only time will tell (hopefully with a little help from the weather ) the Viper can do the same officially

Its my understanding that Jamie and Rangers 10 second efforts were on a track that was below sea level and good weather. Id like to know how that compares to the Englishtown run by Evan. I suspect if Evan ran at Rangers or Jamies track this might have been a 10 sec run. Is Englishtown below sea level? Not as far as I know. I could be wrong.

No E-Town is slightly above but never the less regarded as a very fast track.Weather wise yest air was good for making power-not great (Smith thinks a run in 40 degree temp will definately result in 130 plus mph trap speeds)

I've seen some times for a CGT, Pagani that have been tested and publish, cant remember exactly how fast but one of em trapped 130+ and went 10.x. What sources are they using to declare this a record?

Edit: here is a test done by Motortrend on the CGT, Enzo and Ford GT.

Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT & Ford GT - Field of Dreams - Exotic Coupe Comparison - Motor Trend

the thread title does state DOMESTIC cars so that is the difference. you are correect there are MANY italian cars that could break that record but you know now that you mention it i thought the saleen s7 was faster than an 11.3 but maybe not.

Though the test was done on a oval coarse and instrument rated not an NHRA drag strip (level surface )the Ford GT did run 11.2 at 131 .Looks like we definately got to go back to the track to try to get the Viper into the 10s
