The brakes have been squealing ever since I bought this car and I found where its coming from. I havent taken the wheel off yet but you can see where it looks like the backing plate on the brake pad has been rubbing against the rotor. Are these aftermarket rotors, or do they come stock on an 05 copperhead? If anyone has experienced this what was the fix? Im off to find a low profile jack to help pull this wheel off and investigate...

Actually the shiny grove on the rotor was caused by what appears to be a wear indicating clip on the lower part of the outer pad. I bent it out of the way and I have less squeal but the brakes are still making noise. It seemed like there was enough pad left. The wear indicator is supposed to hit the actual braking surface of the rotor right, not where it was contacting in the picture? Maybe theres more of those things on the inside where I cant see them. Maybe whoever put the rotors on bent the idicator tabs. The fronts seem to get a hell of a lot of brake dust quickly too. I'm going to wait until it cools down to pull the wheels and check it out. Its pretty hot today.

drive your car up on 2x4"s to get clearance for the jack. I have Eibachs and that's how I get my Michelin low-pro floorjack under the chinspoiler.

It looks as though you have 2 piece lightweight rotors on the rear. I'm guessing that the shiny rub mark you're referring to is the edge of the aluminium 'hat'?

Take pics of the parts and send them to JonB with the brand names and since he sells all that stuff he should be able to tell you what looks bent and what looks correct.

You're welcome

I use short 2 x 4"s so that when I drive up on them they're not allover the place and in my way. Once I feel the car lift onto the short blocks I stop there so it helps parking location a well.

what you have are 2 piece light weight stop-tech rotors which are standard on the new ACR's

I have Roe Racing 14" 2 piece lightweight rotors on my GTS and eradi-speed 13 lighweight rotors on rear with no dragging or modifications required to stock EBC Red ceramics required.

I have Eradispeed 13" lighweight drilled/slotted rotors on the front of my ACR and I just installed EBC Reds all around on it - no problems or interference on that car either.

If I remember correctly, the wear indicators have to be either bent out of the way or removed for the 2 piece rotors.

Not speaking from personal experience though.

This is correct. I found out the hard way. I put my Euroteck rotors and noticed on the last wheel that there would be a clearance issue lol. Remove the tabs on the other pads, problem solved

Maybe I should check mine as well my right rear always squeals every time i stop. When i had the car inspected a few months ago they said the rear pads were brand new. I put maybe 800 miles on since and never took the wheel off to look at it. I think ill check the tabs you guys are talking about. That would be nice if i just have to bend a tab.

Easy fix.

The problem is that the pads need to be switched, in to out. Put the outside pad on the inside and vice versa.

There's a clearence difference between the pad with the squeeler and the one without - and that causes the drag on the hat.

+1, reverse the pads and problem solved. Put squealer pad on inside.
