Bill:

I just installed the Ballanger headers from Tom Welsh. The headers fit like a glove and are fairly easy for someone with a mechanical aptitude to install.

The exhausts are a different animal. You will need an arc or tig welder and a set of torches. The exhaust must be tailored to your car. Basically you remove the entire factory exhaust and build your own. You would defeat the purpose of the headers if you kept the factory exhaust system.

There are several different combinations of components you can utilize. I used the Dynamax bullet mufflers and the elliptical cats from Sean Roe. I don't think you would want it any louder. People absolutely know you are around.

If you want let me know and I will sent you the pic's of my install

I have a '93 and frankly I am pretty happy with just new mufflers and (off road) no cats. Some folk complain of the smell, but I don't. Much more ferocious sounding, but loud, too. Cost about $500 including the fabrication. Dynomax makes round mufflers that fit with abit of coaxing. I also got the armored flex material that connects to the sidepipes (I had completely new sidepipes built) from Pacesetter exhaust.

With this change, 1.7 Crower Roller Rockers and K&Ns the old GENI makes 414 rwhp and over 460 torque.

If you just want to play with sound, I would not recommend headers. Expensive and may have heat issues in the engine bay.

Just my thoughts, as headers will give a substantial increas in hp from what I have heard.

I have a -93, all I did was cut the old mufflers away and replaced the "gap" with straight pipe. Several Vipers in Dallas area run the same set up. Sounds very aggressive, according to the muffler-guy it is loud, I think it sounds excellent. I want to be seen and heard, so it does not bother me. I really didnt like the "Hoover-vacuum cleaner" exhaust tone, it was very similar than in my -87 Grand National. Just a whole lot of sucking air, no exhaust note.... All above costed me 240$

Bill,

I have and really like my Borla cat back system. I put it on myself and I'm certainly no mechanic. I bought it used from the classified secton on this board. Last time I looked there was another one still there for around $600.
