No way to make an uneven firing v-10 sound like a v8.Why would you want it to sound like a v8?Anyway the Corsa is much nicer sounding than stock. For more meaness get rid of the cats and put on headers too. Bruce

Never, Never will a Viper sound like a small or big block V-8. I have Bellenger headers with Bellenger exhaust (no cat's or mufflers) and it's loud but it does not sound like my recent 70 Trans Am, 74 Corvette, 78 Z-28, 84 Corvette, 87 (Mustake)GT or my 01 Corvette Z06 which had that low rumbling you are looking for. Sorry try a ZO6....

Guess I'll just have to make do with a car that is mean rather than one that only sounds like it is. '99, isn't that the year that Ford forgot to put all the ponies in?

The Viper's exhaust note has been compared to an angry UPS truck or a John Deere. I happen to like the unique 'burble' that is omitted from the snake, but I'm also partial to the lower growl of some 8's and 12's.

Sound is obviously subjective, but you can be sure that the esiest way to alter the audible character of any car is to start with cat-forward applications then work your way back. The Corsa exhaust you mentioned is only part of the equation.

Best of Luck

I was in the lobby, at work, walking back to my office. I heard a sound that caught my attention. V8? No. What then? I hear the engine start to wind up, so I looked out the windows. I saw nothing but the engine sounds incredible. (I'm starting to think, "Sounds like a Viper" - but doubting it.) Sounds awesome. Just then a silver RT slithers rapidly down the street, making a glorious racket. I realized that I seldom get to hear the note from other than inside my Viper.

The point: Before I even knew the noise was from a Viper, I was already hooked by the distinctive, and powerful sounding exhaust note.

Is this one of these "taste" things? Dunno.

Just the other day, I heard a 500 horse Ferrari go by, then I heard a Lambo Diablo. I couldn't help but think, "Hey, they don't sound like my 5 liter Mustang". hahahaha

In all seriousness, I do think they sound different but I do not want my $75,000 car to sound like my $20,000 Camaro. It has a unique engine configuration and should have a unique sound. I've grown to love it.

Exhaust note is certainly subjective. I love the way tuned V8s sound, but the Viper's got a note all its own and I wouldn't have it any other way.

As a data point, you can hear the Belanger headers / Belanger Exhaust / high-flow cats combo on my yellow RT quite well in this video.

quote:
pretty impressive how you caught and passed the Mustang. It's a little unclear whether you knew that the green light means GO!

That's actually how it's supposed to look, more or less. The form is called "bracket racing" and it works by handicapping the faster car by approximately its margin of superiority. In the case of my Viper vs the Mustang, that margin ended up being about 2.5 seconds

and I caught the Mustang well before the finish line because he was overly optimistic about how fast he could run.

I'm guessing Ben spotted him a few seconds on the tree, and then still went in for the kill, just to really see some droppy eyes in the pits!!!

Sweetness Ben, absolute sweetness.......
How's your charged project coming along?????

It was an amusing race to watch on video. All I remember at the time is "wow, he's way ahead of me" followed shortly thereafter by "wow, I just went by him in a hurry!"

The SC project is coming along famously; I'm not rushing Doug, and he rewards my patience by coming up with new tweaks to make to the system in the quest for more horsepower. One of these days he'll declare it finished to his high standards and ship it back to me, at which point the fun will begin

Ben, thanks for the morning wake-up ----- what a wonderful way to greet the morning! The sound of your Snake is definitely in the " One Bad Boy," category. The sound debate seems to come up often, and alot of it stems from the fact that our V10 does have a distinct sound. I am often amazed at the comments from folks when we take them over to the Snake Pit, and let them listen to various Vipers that are usually in there. It is interesting to note that many folks love the Corsa , Borla, or Snake-Oyl systems, and virtually everyone goes crazy over a Header system - though many then state it is too loud for them. If you want to hear a wide range of radical set-ups, you might want to wander over to Mid-Ohio in a few months, as there will be 80 Snakes on course and that will single handedly change your thoughts on whether you like/dislike the V10 sound. There should be enough folks there with Corsa, Borla , Snake-Oyl systems and many will be running headers ( mainly Archer and Belanger ) ---- you will be able to walk away with your personal choice of system to make your own personal noise.
