Exhaust question.

I have Edelbrock headers and a 3" borla exhaust system, which drops down to 2 1/2" just before the resonator.Well the guy at the muffler shop tells me that its ******* the motor and that i am losing HP.I really like the sound it makes right now.But if it is ******* the motor i would cut the 2 1/2" section out.Anyone heard of this.Any advise would be appreciated.

It probably isn't optimum for scavenging or optimum for performance, how ever it won't cause harm to your engine. I would suggest equal size diameter from the headers to tips for best preformance though...
I have E/B headers and a full 3" Borla system minus the cats and love it ...

Im not sure if i understand exactly what your situation is.

Are you saying that you have Headers with a 3" oulet going into the stock 2.5" cat then expanded back up to 3" to meet up with the borla?

Could you take a pic with the sidesill off and post it?

I have 3" all the way. GEN 1's like the open exhaust....
2.5" is not HARD for the motor in any way. It may not be OPTIMAL, thats all.
