Extended Warranty

I am the owner of a 2000 red GTS. I took delivery in October 2000. Everything else I have ever driven pales in comparision.
I have received information regarding Chrysler's extended warranty. It is very expensive. I plan on keeping this car along time. How reliable are they after a few years? Do you think buying the extended warranty is worthwhile?

You may never need the extended warranty, but the peace of mind is worth every penny in my mind. I have one that I have never used, but sleep better at night just know that if something were to happen, I would be covered (most likely anyway!!)

Also, I heard from a friend that Erica no longer works at Fitzgerald. Can anyone confirm this?

I talked to Fitzgerald today about an extended warranty,and yes,Erica is no longer there,and yes,the price I was qouted,was a lot higher than Woodhouse.

Gonna call the House tomorrow and sign up.

To answer the original question, I suggest the extended warrantee. Yes, get it and forget about it. My Viper has been rather reliable- so far. But, I have only had it for 12 months and 5500 miles.

So far, I have replaced the battery, and had numerous little fit & finish items that were covered under the original 36/36 warranty. I chose to replace the battery with one of my own choosing after finding Mopar batteries to be substandard. It was easier to pay $57 and put in a battery which will (hopefully) last 5 years, than to have my ham-****** Dodge dealer put in another battery which has been proven to last only one year.

OTOH, our 96 Caravan has been towed 5 times since we bought it new. Way too many failures for a car with only 38,000 miles, IMHO. MY wife was so glad that she bought the extended warranty when the bill came back for our new transmission. That alone paid for the warranty. BTW, Sue will not go anywhere in her Dodge now, unless she has her cell phone with her. How is that for faith?

We bought our Chrysler extended warrantee from our local C/P dealer, and from the prices I have seen on the board over the last year, we got a great deal. I have used it for misc. stuff for repairs on our '94, and we went for the 100% coverage one, no deductible, and if I remember right, it was only $50.00 more than the $50.00 deductible one. That's a no brainer, use it once, and it's paid for! Great peace of mind, and I would say that with the few times we have used it, it has already recouped about half of what we paid for it. Remember, parts and labor on the Viper are not cheap, even for misc. items. Our A/C line from the compressor to the condenser went out from rubbing against the frame of the car, and I think just that line was somewhere about $165.00, not to mention the re-charge of the system, etc., so about $225.00 for parts on that one alone, and then labor on top of that would have put the total cost at about $400.00. The extended warrantee covered all of it! Then the thermostat went out, it was sticking open all the time, then the camshaft position sensor started leaking oil, so essentially all minor stuff, but it adds up fast. Glad I bought the extended warrantee, as all these things happened after the 3/36 was out, naturally! Also, we are really lucky to have such a great local dealership and Viper tech in residence, that is most important. Good luck in whatever you decide and enjoy your Viper.
