Factory shifter ball/knob removal from shifter rod

Tried searching but no luck. How do you remove the factory shifter ball/knob from the shifter rod?

So there's no way to retain the factory knob if one is to change the shaft?

No, the knob is molded around a boss at the top of the shifter bar, permentantly 1 piece.

There is a short shaft version of the factory shifter used on some ACRs, if that's what you are looking to do. I bought one of these for my Viper from VPA. It is about 2 inches shorter and available with red stitching or black stitching.

Works great with the MGW shift mechanism.
