After getting back from Sundance film festival and not driving my viper for 10 days i decided to take it out for a run at about 1am sunday night on the Long Island Expressway. The expressway was quiet and barely any cars in sight. I was cruising at 60mph minding my own business when a black honda/acura type fast and furious car with writing on the side of it and a big wing on the rear pulled up along side. He dropped it in neutral and rev his motor. I still dint mind him and kept cruising. After being teased for about 5 mins or less i decided to screw with him and dropped the viper into 4th and took off. He started to come after me and he lost control and spun out and did a 180 into the left divider. Everything was seen in my rear view mirror. I did not stop to see if they were ok and kept driving. I did not want to be blamed for something they did or started. I didnt think they hit the divider hard cause the car swirved couple of times with his brakes engaged before impact so dont think they hit it at more than 30mph. I know i should of stopped but didnt want to be blamed for sometin i didnt do. I kinda feel quilty but they shouldnt have not messed with the viper in the first place.

In this day and time, they could have been packing a little heat and they just might have been mad enough to use it. Could have been a very sore loser. You never know. This thread really makes you think about ethics and responsibility. There are several ways to look at this scenario.

That's just scary. Imagine if that POS would have wrecked into your Viper. No matter how much I'm tempted to, I try my hardest not to fall for the bait from all these young "racers" trying to see what the Viper can do. I don't care who's faster... I just let them rev their motor and say to myself, "so what??"

You were right to be concerned about being blamed for the other car's accident. In the scenario you described, you would have been considered to have 'engaged in competitive driving on public streets'. You can be liable for property damage, injury and criminal prosecution. I understand that these laws are in place to discourage racing, but I never quite understood the idea of shifting the blame for another driver's ability or decisions to you. But anyway, that's the Law in New York.
You may remember the case where a lambo and vette were racing on Long Beach Road and the vette (or maybe the lambo) hit a volvo and killed himself and the occupants of the volvo. The surviving racer in the other car was criminally charged despite the fact that his car did not make contact with any other vehicle. That being said, many people push the speed envelope. Just be careful.

PS - Your avatar is awesome. Cool angle. :2tu:

Never post anything like this on an open forum. Ask the moderators to have this removed. You'ld be surprised at who is looking and what can be held against you, especially if someone was injured.

I thought the same thing!

If someone got hurt and reads this post, how many yellow 2001 RT10 Vipers are there in Queens? Not many. A trace back to your TCP/IP address would nail you in court.

If you can, I would edit the post and remove the text.

When ever I come across someone wanting to run it. I'll toy with them. Hammer it and blow past them, (so they can see there's no competition). Then, let up and let them catch up a little. Then hammer it again. Do this a few times. They'll get the picture.

Stay on the porch or you'll get bitten. Unfortunately I don't get challenged very often.
