I forgot to mention something that happened at the drag strip the other night (too busy contemplating the comment from the young lady earlier that evening). As I waited to stage (next up) they started running the motorcycles. I got out to watch and was about fifteen feet from my car. All of a sudden somebody yells, "FIRE! FIRE!" and start pointing in the general direction of my car. I turned immediately and was greeted by a scary sight: The Mustang directly behind me was spewing flames from the sides of his hood and underneath the car. As he began using his fire extinguisher I moved my car up about fifteen feet (it was about eight feet away when it started). A track official had his extinguisher going as well, and I had my own extinguisher in hand and ready to go. They put it out before I pulled the pin on my extinguisher. Scary stuff!
Anyway, if you don't have an extinguisher in your Viper I would STRONGLY recommend getting one. I got mine from Ed at Classics by Elite before he turned the fire extinguisher sales over to Sean Roe at Roe Racing , who I bought my bracket from. These are the AWESOME Halotron extinguishers that don't mess up your paint like the dusty sodium-bicarbonate extinguishers. The mounting kit Sean sells as part of the package is REALLY nice: You don't need to drill a single hole or change anything in your car - it uses the two front bolts of the passenger seat mounts. Best of all, the placement is perfect and doesn't interfere with seat travel or leg room for your passengers. Even my ten-year-old couldn't bump it with his feet. Here is what it looks like installed:

Not only is it GREAT to have available at all times, but several racing venues require you to have a working fire extinguisher. For those of you who never track your car there is a side benefit that you will enjoy: Chicks dig it (and so do the guys). Something about having a performance car with a chrome fire extinguisher mounted inside tells you that this car really means business. Bottom line: Get a fire extinguisher for your Viper. It is very cheap insurance and looks great to boot. I would recommend contacting Sean Roe as I know he has several sets in stock. You will be glad you did!
