It is now night time here in Michigan and the new SRT is home in the garage catching some well deserved z's. I was able to put on about 60 miles today as the weather was just about perfect (for Michigan in February). My comparisons are from a Gen I that has some modifications.

First off the exhaust is much too quiet. I am used to a catless system with 3 inch flow through mufflers. Suffice to say the SRT is not as loud. The sound quality is better though. Less UPS truckish.

I am having difficulties closing both doors. Not an interference issue but just much higher closing effort than the RT. I get partial closure more often than complete closure. I do not think the window issue mentioned elsewhere is causing any of it. I have had the dome lights stay on when all the doors are closed and reclosing the drivers door turns it off so there may be something wrong in the switch adjustment (is it adjustable?). Some kind of a protective surface for the door "buttons" is a requirement.

I miss the trunk emblem. There is nothing to use to assist in closing the trunk. Once a license plate frame is installed I may be able to use it. Otherwise I do not know. Visibility out the rear is actually worse than in the RT/10. I did not expect that.

I noticed that there are a few flat or slightly depressed areas in the soft top near the front edge. It is in the region where the inside frame prevents inside contact. Anyone else have something like that or know what to do?

I have not gone anywhere near WOT yet but the throttle response so far seems less than the RT. Half throttle in the RT in first gear at these temps would definetely break the tires loose. Not so far in the SRT. I read elsewhere that the oil pressure was very high in some other cars. Mine is about 70 psi at higher engine speeds or when cold and a little above 40 during hot idle. My oil temperature got up to a little over 200. Coolant temperature was normally a little below the 200 mark but did rise while at a stop to maybe 205 to 210. Is this normal for the SRT?

There are more sounds coming from the rear area than I have on the RT/10. I believe I have the driveline clunk that others have complained about. Never had it in the RT/10. That is a clunking sound when changing from accel to decel or visa versa.

Washing (yes after driving on roads that had some salt residue I felt the need even on day 1) was a new experience. You definitely see the imnprovements in panel fits when you go over the car. Several areas just seem more "real car" and less "kit car." The front fascia is much more firm. You can no longer move the lateral bar around to drain the water out. There is no longer an infinite water supply along the door rocker panel interface. However, the car overall is no easier to dry. Different but just as many catch locations. Needs Zaino badly. Very hard to get the paint truly clean and smudge free now. Well I know what I am doing this weekend.

Well time to go back to the garage and look some more.

Ron

Yes I agree as I like looking at them myself. However, I have no idea how to actually post them.

I don't know how to post pictures on here either. There should be instructions somewhere. I have not found them, if there are. Can anyone tell us how to post pictures? Or do you have to be "somebody" in order to have that privilege?

Another comment after another trip to the garage to play. The headlights make a high pitched sound. More when first turned on but it continues. I am sure it is related to the HID aspect, but unusual none the less.

Also noted that it may be very difficult to allow the driving lights to be on full time with the type of switch. Plus, that type of switch requiring you to pull out the knob to turn on the driving lights discourages the feebly minded (like me). Alternatives? I really like having the driving lights on during the day to make sure the cell phone using and/or hat wearing crowd sees the car.

Any concerns about leaving the top down long term? It appears that the trunk presses down on the top when closed.

Oh George. Can you make something to replace the ashtray. It looks awful and the hole/cup holder doesn't look any better. And yes the owner's manual refers to it as a cup holder. God this car is getting civilized. Something with a function and not too gawdy.

Another note. What can be done about the seatbets. They are very difficult to find when the door is closed, if they are fully retracted, and a danger to the trim panel if they are partially out. Definitely not good.

NO ZAINO... I was told not to Zaino for a while. They said it's not a good idea on new paint. It should harden for a while before attacking with wax etc.

Anyone from Zaino have a response. I have all of my Zaino supplies ready to apply when I get the word.

Ron, I noticed the same thing during break-in. However, after break-in, from about half throttle to full throttle is an entirely different story. It really comes alive at about 3/4 throttle. In my opinion, much more than my 01 GTS. Full throttle in 1st gear seems to always cause nearly instant wheelspin.

I'd be interested in your observations once you reach break-in.

Jerry, that is interesting regarding Zaino. My car was assembled the 3rd week of January. No idea when the panels were painted as they are received pre-painted. I would like to protect the paint as soon as possible but also do not want to jeopardize the long term paint quality. Maybe a call to Sal is in order.

I exchanged e-mails with Sal Zaino and here is what he said about waiting to polish your car.
"I am a custom painter by trade for over thirty years.
I am very familar with Dupont and PPG and all other paints.
Todays paint technology uses a chemical reaction caused by a catalyst to cure the paint. Factory paint is fully cured in 36 to 48 hours. Zaino contains no Wax, Harmful Silicones or Abrasives. Polish your car as soon as you get it. That factory paint is already cured and needs protection against airborne contaminants and UV rays."
There you go! Have fun Jerry!

Thank Tom. I know what I will be doing tomorrow. Driving is OUT as it just started to snow and 7 to 12 inches has been forecast. UGH!
