NOT ME!! Just got a call from one of our KC members that said he saw a wrecked SRT-10 in silver. Missouri tags, so not Frank or Terry. He told me the damage was fairly extensive, but that it was probably not a total. He has pictures(!) which I will be getting tonight and will post when I get back from our monthly VCA meeting.

One interesting tidbit: He said that he saw the car at a local dealership (the car has since been removed) and that he was able to get up close to it. I was under the impression that "composite resin", which the Vipers are made of, was basically a refined fiberglass. He said that this SRT had plastic fenders that flexed and bent like some of the Saturn's, etc. He said they weren't fiberglass. Heck, I am not exactly sure what the "composite resin" is anyway, but I found this interesting. I will know more when I get the pictures and can talk with him more at length.

Stay tuned!

Chris...

Actually, I think the first one happened down here. About two(or so)weeks ago a guy wrecked his running into some kind of post. Brought it down to Huffines in DFW. I have seen the car and the front end is pretty crumpled up but very repairable.

Well, upon seeing the pictures it doesn't appear to be NEARLY as bad as what was first described to me. Of course, even a scratch is bad on a Viper, so this one was obviously painful for somebody...

I would guess that his/her windshield was also popped, thus the tarp. Dale also checked out the fenders on the car and wow, are they flexible!

The body shop guy showed him that and it was pretty crazy. Obviously not fiberglass!

My condolences to the owner - hopefully they and their wallet will come out okay on this.

OMG!

Wonder how that happen? Damage looks confined to just the front end, but how's the sides and back? And why is the top covered with a tarp over a strange bulge? Hope everyone came out alright.

Looks like they were braking hard and slid under the car (or Truck) in front off them. Perhaps just damage to front end and air intake.

Nice fenders.

Most likely if the AIR BAGS went off then most of the time the windshield brakes...80% of the cars i fix that the air bags go off on the windshield brakes. Hope everyone is OK Hate to see one cracked up already.....

Orange peel: surface of the paint isn't smooth, it looks like the skin of an orange, or golf ball. 2000 grit sandpaper followed by a good buffing will remove it, but it's A LOT of work. Vipers ususally have less orange peel than Vettes, so I'm surprised to hear the SRT looks rough.

Maybe those flexible fenders explain why the SRTs I've seen have so much orange peel in the paint.

I have a black SRT and the paint quality is very good. I would say its much better than the paint job I've had on my Sapphire RT/10 which developed bubbles on the trunk lid. The Sapphire is still an awesome color and it would be my first color choice on any Viper.
This is the first time I heard anyone complain about the SRTs' paint.
