Re: Florida\'s new drag racing law

Idiot lawmakers. Nothing like addressing the real problems in the World.

In 1999, the Florida Department of Highway and Safety for Motor Vehicles reported 28 accidents related to illegal street racing, with 2 fatalities and 27 injuries.

In 2000, the agency reported 39 racing accidents, with 1 fatality and 55 injuries.

In 2002, there were 48 racing accidents, 1 fatality, and 60 injuries.

In 2003 there were 1,274 alcohol-related traffic fatalities on Florida roads.

I really dislike grumpy law makers who insist on making life less fun than it was for them.

Now we just need one of the many viper forum anti street racing/speeding police to pop up and tell us how good this law is, and all will be right in the world. Not to mention their usuall street racing will make us go straight to hell speach.

I'm not advocating street racing but there is no way it's a big problem. And I despise the idea of the government taking property for punishment.

From street racing fears to cat-back fears, to mandatory motorcylcle helmets, to whatever they react to next, it appears that the legislatures in many states are populated with blue hair old foggies, and insurance co puppets, that have nothing better to do than pass assinine laws to restrict public freedoms.

Remember who voted for that sh*t, and make 'em lose their job next election that rolls around. We can "fire" them with our vote!

Re: Florida\'s new drag racing law

I think goes in for approval,it has been signed yet. I did notice they are after the groups that take it to the most desolate areas of the county. They say it is out of control, however the laws of unlawful assembly already apply.

It is a shame that a first time offender would get a harsher sentence than most real criminals.

By the way, subject to the feelings of the officer involved don't leave that light too quickly,or he my be buying your Viper at the next police auction.

Re: Florida\'s new drag racing law

Suppose I own a $400,000 S7 or something similar and I race a $4,000 ******. We both loose our cars but the penalty imposed on me is basically 100 times as severe due to the value of my car. Wouldn’t this violate my constitutional rights under the 14th amendment of equal protection under the law?

In speaking with local traffic ticket lawyers the police will have to prove that the action was 1) pre-arranged,2)the parties involved knew each other or met to arrange the race. Otherwise you are charged with speeding or reckless driving(if in heavy traffic). Just use a nod and make sure your V1 is handy.

I bet it won't stand up to the first lawsuit.
Kind of like the federal asset seizure laws. If you can afford an attorney, you get your stuff back, especially if you were never convicted of anything, and/or charges were dropped.
