Looks like I opened a can of worms with my warranty question below....
Since I am (looks like, right now) considering seriously a 1993, with under 10000 miles, I am hopelessly out of Dodge warranty. As I see it, the car is simply way too old for their coverage.

I would like see some posts from Viper owners who purchased some other type of warranty than DODGE/Chrysler! Expecially where did you buy it/ how much does it go for? And last but lot least... What does it cover.....

Thanks for all the posts, eventhough I seem to be slightly lost with this warranty issue, every little piece of help is useful. And this group has showed a lot of willingness to help someone with "not that good" viperknowledge.

Thanks, Lauri

Lauri,

I bought a '96 GTS this last summer with 15,000 miles on it. Several days after buying the car I bought a Chrysler Warranty from another dealer (for half the price that the dealer who sold me the car wanted).

From the paperwork I read it appears that the dealer bent the rules just a bit as the warranty I bought need to purchased at the time of sale. But it did not appear to be a problem at all so long as it was bought soon after the sale. And so long as I did not need to use it right away.

Everyone's warranty story is different. Find a good Dodge dealership and talk to them in person. The bottom line is that they are a very high margin item and dealership would love to sell you one. Almost anything is possible....

PS Except for JonB, who was aparently born with more Viper knowledge than most of us will ever have, the learning process generally starts after you buy one. Good luck!

You may want ot try contacting Stevens Creek Dodge in Santa Clara, CA. I recieved information on DC Extended care warranties and a '93 with under 10K miles can still be covered even if purchased from a private party. The extended care contracts are available for the current model year and eight prior model years.

For more info contact Larry Valdez at 408-248-1800
