and these are the viper owners that wrap there cars around trees, you're the idiot if you think a 4 year old tire is good as new, theres a good chance that the tires are a good amount older than the install time, you should be ashamed of yourself for stating "only 4 years old and has good tread" when you are trying to sell a viper like its a good thing "typical salesman snake" You IMO are the F****** idiot....shame on you

Replace four year old tires ?? You are a *****...next thing you know folks will be saying tires need replaced every year

Let me tell you, I've most likely driven 50+ more Vipers than you, Vipers with about 1,000 whp (yes, one thousand more) than you....I don't mean 1,000 hp, I mean MORE. Sooooo why don't you go crawl back in a hole ? I'm pretty sure I have a better feel for safe tires or not on a Viper.

In fact, just yesterday another (multi car) experienced VCA member drove this car and while he drove it normal I did some 1st gear, slow mph, full throttle take-offs to show him how well it ran. Cooler day, high of 63 and partly overcast. These tires are just fine.

Sometimes, I think there are a majority of folks that have zero common sense !! ****ing idiot.

LOL man honestly seems you're uneducated on the subject and perpetuating un needed purchases. I've had several 700+rwhp cars running around on older tires with no issue at all. Any tire be it a day old or 10 years old can be dangerous in the un-skilled drivers hands

wow only a few pages into your posts and I found this below "I only changed to get fresh softer rubber" why would you do that only after 7000 miles if tires dont get hard with age or use and become dangerous? I'm sure I can find more pro tire change posting over your 5000+ postings history....I dont think calling people ***ing idiots is a good idea when they can find things you wrote that shows you are a hypocrite and show your the idiot ,

if you have driven so many vipers with x amount of hp to the point you think you are gods gift over other viper owners than you have a sad life. I would suggest reading this article http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/24390...s-can-pose-hidden-deadly-danger/#.T5bpOpiLHFI and consider the advise of many of the go to people on vipers and their opinions on aging tires. Maybe you should have left the subject alone with my "I digressed with apologies." post Now you have to wonder what other things are you saying are ok that really are not with your viper.

Kumho 700A the A stands for autocross. That is the one you want for the street. I have gotten 7000 each out of two pairs and one pair I only changed to get fresh softer rubber.

Seriously? Nothing wrong with 4 year old tires having good tread.

You SHOULD replace your tires every year! You should also paint your house and cut your hair three times a week! Haha! I bought my Viper three years ago and I'm still running solid on the same tires. Sorry, not trying to stir the ***. I've just heard so much anal crap about tires being the root of all evil that I find the discussion....tiring. :D

The reason for changing to soft, fresh rubber after 7,000 miles is because when you're racing against a clock it makes a difference. I remeber hearing people say that fresh tires were good for 2 seconds at Spring Mountain, and that's why guys were dropping $4K in tires for the weekend. I've had the tires on mine for over 4 years, and yes, while they're hard I know it and adjust my driving style accordingly. When I was in Vegas, there were places where I could go to track my car, but in Abilene, TX there's nothing around for over 100 miles. I don't need to change tires because they're perfect for my situation, and I know their limits. If I had the funds, I'd buy 1TONY!'s car in a heartbeat. Most people go through a new (to them) vehicle and change all the fluids and anything else they can think of just for piece of mind anyway...tires included. Personally, I'd rather get the car with the old tires on it so the owner wouldn't charge more for the car to get back the price of new ones. It's all personal preference, and I wish 1TONY1 the best of luck selling his car.

Iam not going to comment on tires, but I will comment on the GTS for sale, I sold my 97 GTS when I purchased the 06 Viper SRT FE, I often think of purchasing another 97 GTS because Iam very passionate about that Viper. I sold my GTS with 27K on the clock and was told then that 27K miles was a lot of miles for a Viper, my Viper Tech even agreed...

So with that in mind 103K miles makes this Viper very well used, it really scares me away from purchasing even at 27K. I mean if I was to purchase it and possibly sell some years down the road would I not take another huge hit or would collectability even be a factor? I quess it all depends on what you want.

I quess if I were to purchase this GTS, resale would be out of the question it would have to be a keeper....the other questions heavily on mind is the mechanics of this GTS...In the years I have been A Viper owner I have only heard of a couple of Vipers with this kind of mileage and the engines had already been swaped out....

I will have to think longer on this one.......

I assume it was a post of Tony's you were referencing saying he replaced the tires after 7,000 miles so he had softer rubber?

Like 96 said, it makes a difference on what you're using the car for. Not to mention, if it was on Tony's car, you're talking about a car with WELL over 1,000rwhp. That extra grip can become a little more important with that kind of power.

If people buy 150,000 mile Honda Accords I don't see a problem with a 100,000 mile Viper. If it drives and sounds good when you buy it thats all you can ask for when buying a used car.Certainly the parts alone would cover the purchase price. What a great daily driver.

was he saying on a viper or for a viper, :dunno:

i mean:

"i rarely see that many miles on a viper" or "expect problems with that many miles on a viper"

i'm thinking the former :eater:

Not sure of the Vipers you have heard of, but I know me (108k) and Chuck 98RT/10 (120k I think), are still on the original engines. There's also a yellow RT/10 in NC w/100k+ on it that is on the original engine as far as I know. There's a supercharged 96 RT/10 w/200k on it that had the engine swapped out years ago but that was b/c Chrysler wanted to see the engine when it had 100k on it.

cool tid bit chad :2tu:

From what I remember, he took the car in because it was making a noise from the engine. The dealership diagnosed the problem and could've fixed it, but Chrysler authorized a new engine because they wanted to get his back as a core so they could inspect it. Same thing happened with his transmission at a later date!

First, I'm going to apologize for calling names. The rest I stand by.

And now to continue.............

"OH KNOWS!!!!"
You caught me :omg: changing out autocross tires where thousandths of a second count. :lmao:
Good job !!!

BTW, I don't know when the tires were changed on this car but what I did know before your post was the date code......I "could" be wrong but I imagine they were installed after they were made and not before. :D

I'm sure I will go to hell for this but: The V700's on the rear of my car now are six years old per the date code. The next pair (same date code) still stored in the garage will be going on when the traction/tread go away on these.

It would be interesting to do a poll asking the age of Viper tires. My bet is that the majority will be four years and older by far.

You are also arguing with someone that has had a tire durometer in the toolbox for years.....I'm only assuming since this subject is so important to you that you also have this piece of equipment ?? :rolaugh: Interesting looking at the different readings from different vehicles, tire brands, tire age, this morning. I could bore everyone with a lot of numbers but the bottom line is that the tires on the car that is for sale fall right in line with where they should be...imo of course because there are a lot a variables testing tires.

wow only a few pages into your posts and I found this below "I only changed to get fresh softer rubber" why would you do that only after 7000 miles if tires dont get hard with age or use and become dangerous? Why don't we all just agree to disagree and move on. You will NEVER change my mind about changing tires every 4 years on a Viper and I am pretty sure that Tony won't change his mind either, let it rest. Please!

Regarding the statement that it would have to be a keeper...not debating you or necessarily directed towards you bluesnake, just some general info from my point of view:
This car sold at around 60,000 miles from the original owner, sold around 92,000 miles and then sold at 98,000. I bought my 96 b/w GTS with 42,000 miles March of 2002.....now in 2002 that was high miles :D There was an interesting theory some years back about the low $$ number on a gen2. Seems like the general thought was about $25,000 because any gen2 is worth that much in parts. That figure may have dropped but you get the general jest of what people were thinking. In fact, that "parts" $$ may be going back up now.

What's not to love ?
Need a transmission...$1,500 with 12,000 miles or a $700 rebuild....Vipers get them all the time.
High engine miles ? Not really that expensive to freshen the rings, bearings....it's done all the time. We swapped the rod bearings on Chads 108,000 mile car this past Saturday, they had some wear but had 50,000+ left in them. When my engine was taken apart for performance upgrades it was in very good shape at 62,000+.
Differential..... $1,000-$1,200 for a <20,000 mile replacement....easy !! :D
Yes, since I work on them it does sound easy. Granted if you don't work on them and don't have a private person that can....all this does sound a little scary if you have to go to the dealership, but a lot of folks say....oh the transmission goes out...that's $700 plus three hours labor, no big deal.

This car may not be for the man that can go out and buy the 8,000 mile GTS for $56,000 dollars.
Name ANY car you can get for this price, drive anywhere, have a make friends of the caliber that I have, have the instant "rock Star" effect etc. etc. I can't think of any other car......I'll admit, I am biased :D
My car with 42,000 miles when I got it in 2002 and there was not a Viper owner with a zero mile 2002 GTS that was more proud of or loved their car more than me (there still isn't either). The only difference was that they spent a lot more $$$ (and theirs wasn't blue and white :D)

All that said, if any VCA member (current member as of 4/30/12) buys this car, I will do the exchange labor free of charge at my shop for one year or 12,000 miles. Engine, transmission, differential...you name it. Not a plus if you are in Ca. but Tn/Ga/Al/Sc/Fl/Ky it could be a piece of mind. I'm only offering that because I have confidence in the car, not to enable a sale ........because if it doesn't sale right away I don't really care. I could have already traded for a dozen later model mudstains.Cobra this, Saleen that...no thanks :)

There was a guy in the club in Vegas that had a 1996 GTS that was still on the original tires back in 2007. He didn't drive the car hard, and there was a laundry list of people that wanted to buy it from him. I don't know how many miles are on it now, but it could have 100K miles and people would still want it. I got my GTS with 16K miles and I didn't pay much more than 1Tony1 is asking for his, but I got it in 2005 and I know what a smoking deal I got. In the past 7 years I've replaced the clutch slave cylinder and a front wheel hub. These cars are over-engineered, so I wouldn't shy away from a 100K mile car strictly based on mileage. Like any Viper, it needs to be checked out first (regardless of the miles), but I'd be more concerned about previous accidents, does the brake fluid look like coffee or apple juice, what's the condition of the paint, does the transmission sound like a blender, has it had a leak down test....

I buy cars to drive, not speculate on the value of them 10 years from now. If this car is as tight and well maintained as mine, the mileage is irrelevant.

Exactly, why would a tire dealer sell the tires that just came off the truck first when they have 3 dozen that've been sitting in the corne r for over a year? If you seriously track your car, you want the freshest, softest tires you can get because it might be the diference between first place and first loser. I'm well aware of the importance of good rubber on a performance car, but why is everyone focusing on the age of the tires? You're not seeing the forrset because of all the trees. It's a beautiful car, and probably gets the same attention as one that has 5K miles for half the price.

I rarely post but thought I would like to throw my .02 into the mix. 3 months ago I would have been all over this Tony, but due to "pregnant" circumstances I am going to have to pass for now. In no way would the age of tires or the mileage on the car deter me from giving this car a look in fact I have been spreading the word in my local circles down here in the Atlanta area (I think most true viper nuts are already aware of your car).

On the issue of the tires, I have the same philosophy as guns. Tires don't kill people....incompetent drivers kill people. These cars are raw and do not forgive poor choices with the controls, if you are not aware of what this vehicle will do when you don't respect it then you do not have any business behind the wheel of one.

Best of luck on this sale, I will continue to pass the word along to anyone who I run across that is interested.

~Michael

Some tires you guys buy "new" can be more than a few years old....

That is something everyone should be aware of on all vehicles when purchasing new tires.
This morning when I was testing tires with the durometer and noting manufacture dates I saw that the front tires I had installed on my dually...I think it was last summer, have a date code in 2008. If I had known that they were made three years before I bought them I would have balked. Used tires are one thing but new/old is another.
Granted I have new/2006 Kumhos in stock....those were purchased because they were no longer available "and" I know how they have been stored.
