What's up guys Im in the market for another gen2. Over the past 11 years I owned a 97,99 GTS and 2006 SRT. Both 99 and 06 I built to 1000hp. I want to get in to another B&W 96/97 GTS but how much better is a 2002 as far as build quality goes? How does a 99GTS fit between the two? I want to build another 1000hp GTS and I want it BW in color. I was thinking about starting with a 2002 because of all the new updates or a 99 because of the last year of the forged motor, both cars I would paint BW or just go with a 96/97 pending feed back about the quality of a 96 vs 2002.

Interiors are nicer on the 99-02 cars, ABS on the 2001/2002 is the other benny for the later cars. Really, color choice.

Yes 99 cars seem to be the best in my opinion. Forged internals and all new gadgets. No ABS though, but that's not important to me. I don't think there's anything better in a 2002 car vs 99. Unless someone can tell me diffrient.

What's nicer about the interior? Textured dash and better looking door handles? Is there something else that was updated from 96 and 97 cars?

Minor changes but here goes...
My car is a 2000 ACR, it has the rear hatch lever under the passenger seat, I'm not certain if the '99 has that.
96-97 cars needed additional reinforcements to the rear of the frame as a recall.
I want to say 2000 and up has a higher capacity fuel pump. I believe certain '01-02 fuel tanks have leaking issues and are now obsolete.
I believe the 2000 up oil pan is ten quarts vs lower for '99 and below. I want to say some oiling improvements to the timing cover were made in '01 or '02
There are others as well, I'm forgetting them...........

1999 does have the hatch release. I believe that was the first year it was available. Maybe 1998? Also the 99 has the auto side view mirror aajustment on the dash, 96/97 do not.

Is there anything major to the suspension or the frame that makes earlier cars feel or drive diffrient then 01/02 cars? I guess Im wondering if 02 cars feel more solid and over all better when driving vs 96/97 cars. My 99 felt the same as my 97 but that was 6 or 7 years ago.

96-99 GTS had the 708 hotter cam and forged internals, no abs. The 99 had the new wheels. The 2000-02 were cream puffs, no forged internals or hot cam, but did have abs, except for the 2000. I has a 96 and 2000 GTS and they were both really strong. It is really personal preference and money. I think the RT10s followed suit except for the 96 which was the previous engine if I am not mistaken. My 2000 spun the crank pulley and always seemed to run hot. The 96 leaked oil.

Yes the engine benefits I'm very familiar with. I've also lost my cream puff 06 motor and went forged after that but I knew that was going to happen trying to push boost.

Thanks for the comments guys. Seems to me there isn't a big difference between a 96/97 and 02 cars as far as overall build quality is concerned. Brakes, interior gadgets, etc can all be retrofitted. The most important thing to me is the BW color combo and the forged motor so I'll be starting my build with a very clean low mile 96/97BW car. Going with an 02, rebuilding the motor and repainting it doesn't seem worth it.

If anyone know of a clean BW 96/97 for sale let me know. Tasteful mods are a plus. :D

Good luck with your search. One thing i didn't see listed is that the rear end carrier was beefed up in 02. Has larger carrier bolts. Not sure if changes were made to differential components.

If B/W is important, you know that '96-97 are the years. If keeping stock, I would say '96, if building it as you mentioned, I would go '97 since you may save a few$ bucks over '96. Personally, I'm partial to the '02 FE red/white. Good luck with the hunt!

I found a three very clean 96 BW cars. One has 1200 miles and the other two are 6k and 8k. All are relatively priced the same. If I step up to a 20k mile car, price drops around 10k. I'm trying to weigh out my options. The 1200 mile car is too nice for me to rip in to but its local. Both 6k and 8k cars seem very similar in condition and I will need to fly out and check out both. The 20k mile car can be had for about 38k. Decisions, decisions.....

No the 02 that I sold to get into that car; was a DLM car, should have just kept it :(

The car was sitting in a friends storage unit while some things get figured out but I am trying to work with a shop to attempt to piece it back together. They are trying to locate parts that are obvious that I do not have to get started.
