Hey guys...I'm the guy that put this on eBay. (thanks for the post, Frank)
Please allow me to clarify...
First of all..I used to use regular door edge guard material as some mentioned. These were about 20" long, and were very stiff. It was difficult to fit as they are a stiffer type of plastic. If you started in the middle and took each piece towards the end....they did not go much past where the tight curve is. Since they were stiffer..they tended to come loose at that tight curve as well. I tried every type I could get my hands on and had similar results.
Then, I found this much softer, vinyl stuff. This bends much easier, fits better...and comes in long lengths. A huge improvement.
And no, it's not $5 for 100'. Not even close. (I have been restoring national winning showcars for 20 years and know my way around the supply houses, etc)
dave6666.... The "caulk" does stretch a bit as the guard is removed...but it comes off clean. If some stayed behind...it would rub off with a dry finger. (Like the glue they use on direct mail pieces that rubs off) Everytime I have put new ones on...and this could be after a year or more....all the caulk stayed on the guard.
v10kingsnake....I have had mine scrape and not fallen off. Remember, these have been on my car since new and I have never lost one. Obviously, a hard impact is one thing...but these have gotten pretty scraped up on my car and the fascia has stayed like new.
As far as the price goes...I'm paying the shipping and once I figure the per foot cost of this material...believe me....this isn't my retirement fund.
I had several local Viper guys ask me for these after seeing mine...so I thought maybe some other Viper guys could use them too.
It's cheap insurance that has paid off for me many times over.
