Front Rotor 13 1/2\'\' or 14\'\' for street/track

I just found out the Baer 6 piston brake kit I bought 2 years ago has 13.5'' rotors not the14'' which I thought I bought.
I ordered a new set of rotors last week because mine are starting to crack in the centers. They sent me 14'' which of course do not fit. They have offered to send spacers to move the calipers out and use the 14''.

My question is, my car is a street car first, track car 2nd. Will 14'' rotors have any ill effects on the street i.e.. excess heat or squeal? and will the 14'' make that much difference? and what about the spacers is that the way it should be configured?

14 inch rotors will have no street issues.

On the track they disperse heat better and give more stopping power.

My only concern would be wheel clearance, which you shouldn't have a problem with 18s.

are the spacers the way to go to make more clearance for the extra 1/2 inch?

you'll need NEW brkts :( spacers only move the wheels farther out.
You can't just change rotor sizes, without having new brackets. That's why I had to make all new brkts for the 14" rotors I just installed.

Look at the photo's in my gallery :usa:

Moving the caliper away from the wheel center and using a 14" rotor increases the leverage and will proportionately increase the front brake torque. You will be marginally more prone to front lock up.

I have a proportioning valve to adjust more pressure to the back if need be.

Not wheel spacers, the baer calipers are radial moun and a .250" spacer under the caliper will let it sit on top of the mount and fit a 14" rotor just peechy. With just a .250" spacer I wouldn't worry about it. Run the 14's

You can do that BUT, If the pads fit 13.5" rotors, they won't use up the extra .5", so why bother

Pad size mostly affects pad life and operating temperature, not brake torque. The piston size (and resulting lb-force) and radial distance produces brake torque.

The 14" rotors should have the same vertical pad contact distance as the 13.5s Pads are made to fit the caliper NOT the rotor, there are plenty of guys using viper brakes on 11.5" rotors (older mopars, cudas etc) with the stock size pads. The caliper dictates everything.

Honestly other than filling the wheel a bit better it's fairly safe to say you won't even notice the difference between the 13.5 and 14". With that bad ass set of alcon (made for bear) calipers i'm sure your not lacking in the power department as it is.

Bingo, pad size can have a very small effect on overall power as it changes the total area where the cliper pressure is being dispersed but it's a very very small change.
