Fuel Additives?

The only fuel additive that I have used is Techron. It’s the original Top Tier product engineered to remove carbon deposits. Mopar sells a kit with three (3) branded products for this, it’s pricey but I know I can trust them. But I’ve recently learned about Liqui Moly additives and I’m considering trying one or two; it’s a Top Tier brand that is the most popular throughout Europe. They have a Valve Cleaner that seems to be excellent; my only concern is potentially contaminating an oxygen sensor. Has anyone used any of the Moly products? I only use Chevron or Shell gasolines, they have additives to prevent carbon buildup so I don’t even know if I need a “one time” boost in cleaning. Your thoughts and or experiences?

I also would like to know more about fuel system cleaners. My car kept idling around 1100 to 1200 rpm's. I could kick it back down to the proper idle. Every other stop it would be back to 1100 rpm's. After a $200 throttle cleaning its back. Next I guess it replace. Oh well if my cars not right than I'm not right.

I've used Techron in the past, but generally more due to flakey fuel level sensors as it's supposed to be good at helping revitalize them some. How often you drive your car might have something to do with that too though. Mine was my daily driver for a long time and I basically put a tank a week through it, so it was always getting fresh gas and the natural detergents that are in it all the time. If your car sits around for a long time it could potentially have build-up issues more often. Have you had it retuned or modified in any way either? I highly doubt you'd have to worry about carbon deposits on a stock tune as I doubt with emissions these days that you'd have much extra fuel to worry about. I had an aftermarket tune but even at 125,000 miles when I rebuilt my engine after a spun rod bearing it looked pretty clean on the inside.

Oh wow, that’s great to hear that the engine stays clean! Thank you so much. I do run a bottle of Techron at about each oil change but the Top Tier detergent gasolines must actually do what they are supposed to do.

I’m at about 63k now, and I drive her 3-4 times per week. My car seems to mirror everything yours has done as far as issues that have needed to be addressed, that’s kind of funny to me. I’ve driven all but 2k of those miles myself. Having owned and driven it for so long I can’t remember how the “feel” was when I first got her. Recently I’ve been a little concerned at start up that the idle may not be as smooth as it was, but it’s probably all in my head, it is a very big motor after all.

I have the Borla cat back but no other mods.

Haha, that's pretty cool that we seem to have the same car. I bought mine with around 40,000 and change on it, so I've only put on another 80,000 or so myself. Just make sure you check the oil level if you ever track it so you don't follow too closely in my footsteps. They really are great cars though and built to last. I was just replacing a ball joint boot the other day and while I had the upper control arm out I hit it with a little shot of brake cleaner and a rag and it shined up like new and you'd never believe it had that many miles on it. The joints are all still nice and tight as well. The main thing that seems to wear out on them is just the boots all around. My sway bar end links are looking pretty rough and could probably stand to get replaced though. In the past I just bought a full set of ball joint boots as I had a few that were looking iffy and had gotten pinholes over the years. I just replace them as they start leaking and keep fresh grease in them and they keep on trucking.
