Garage Floor Interlocking \"Tiles\"

What is the price per square foot of doing quality interlocking garage floor "tiling" out of oil resistant material?

I have seen photos of this (checkboard) in the photo archives, but I would rather have something unique if available.

Input much appreciated.

I think you are speaking of something like Race Deck. There are lots of threads on that topic in the general section. I installed regular industrial vinyl tile in mine.

Jeremy:

Am familiar with Griot's. Have bought their products over the years (although their garage floor cleaner left something to be desired). Thanks for the head's up.

RACE DECK has very nice product but alittle pricey.Even if you want to be a dealer.Alot of people use a commercial grade vct 1/8th NOT THE SELF STICK SH1TT YOU BUY AT HOME STORES depending on garage ceramic tile is sweet or for a real head turner marble with insets I am doing ceramic this winter would do marble but garage is used year round with everyday drivers (snow, salt, mud and the occasional car marking it's territory)Also you can do vct with inset or decal and have it polished as needed.

Thnaks. Salt and snow would never be a problem. I do not feel that painting the floor is the best alternative. Costco does, indeed, make interlocking tiles. I am not fond of the color selection. I have not looked into race deck, but shall do so.

Re: Garage Floor Interlocking

The only problem with race deck is you need expansion around all walls and if you get the vented, dirt and water gets in floor and is a pain to keep clean.Great product for car shows and showrooms. If you are serious about race deck PM me.Look into solid vinyl tile or ceramic you may find it to be a better deal for the money and can do different things with it. Just my $.02 :D

100 % solid two part epoxy(industrial coating) just like factory and the fancy service write up areas and service bays in car dealerships. mine has been on four almost 5 yrs and looks just like it did when it went down. this is really the way to go.

Re: Garage Floor Interlocking

SylvanSRT is right. I have 2 part epoxy down for 8 years and it's still perfect. -0- maintenance other than a wet mop once in a while.

Re: Garage Floor Interlocking

What about floor prep. If there are already oil based stains on the floor, does the two part epoxy method require extra steps?

Re: Garage Floor Interlocking

yes but a qualified installer will prep the floor properly, usually shot blasting or special grinder that removes the top surface. the surface then gets replaced w/ epoxy make sure they use some kind of traction additive(preferably glass beads)

You can have your wife call me (404) 252-6454 and tell me about her products if she likes.

Thank you for letting me know of the tile.

Re: Garage Floor Interlocking

the epoxy is a liquid coating applied over the floor, extremely hard and durable. use the industrial/comercial stuff not the do it yourself stuff.

Re: Garage Floor Interlocking

Your input and direction flooring has been incredibly helpful. I have weighed all recommendations and am going with shag carpeting.

Seriously, I was contacted by a VCA member, and I am going to purchase a Race Deck equivalent. It meets my needs, goes well with a black car, and I can make snow angels on it.

Thanks boys,
