Great info Marv. I wonder how much horsepower is required to exceed the 5th gear maximum speed in 6th gear. For example: a stock Viper with 3.54 gears may top out at 173 mph @ 6k rpm in 5th and go no faster in 6th due to aerodynamic drag. Adding horsepower won't make the car any faster in 5th, but at some level it should overcome the drag and allow the car to go faster in 6th. Ideas?

Wayne, You are studying the tach while going 165mph? You need to switch places with your navigator at SS and let him drive!

But is that radar measured or spedometer? Are you sure the calibration unit for the 3.45 gears is right on? John, It will take LOTS of HP in 6th. Good reading at:

a little different in reality but close. I run about 165 mph in 5th at 5800 rpm in Silverstate using 3.45 gears.
