Like the title says, I have some questions on replacing the cam position sensor on a gen 1. I've done the searching, but everything seems to point to get two and later cars.
I've seen the posts where the later cars have a step on the cam gear and that you have to make sure the sensor it mounted while the step is under the sensor or you destroy the new one. Also seen where folks
mention a paper spacer.
So the questions are, does the Gen 1 have this step on the cam gear? I do have a service manual but it seems the cam gear on this one is slotted, not having a raised section, from the service manual says.
There's no mention of a paper spacer in the service manual. On that note there isn't anything listed from what I recall (manual not handy) about clearance between sensor and cam gear.
Assuming that the cam gear on this isn't stepped, what is the correct way to install it? Just press in till bottomed out and slip it back a little bit? I Want to do it right the first time and not mangle a new sensor.
Thanks in advance.
