GEN.1 - ongoing quest to get aluminum door cups/ door handles...

No need for a list, but thanks ( I would want pics too!). I'm going to build a dozen sets. They are being machined out of a solid block of aluminum. At this point, even I don't know what they will look like, but I'm fairly confident they will look pretty good. Expect the price to be about $225 for a set. You can get a replacement plastic part from Dodge for $64 a set.

OK. I had to pull this job off the CNC to make some handles for the hardtops, but his is what I've got so far. The block on top is plastic for prototying the shape, the rest of the blocks are aluminum.

Yes, if its simple enough. I assume you want a aluminum fuel door just like the factory painted version? Same shape and operaton? I have time for that. I have no time to make one that looks like, say, the new coupe (too many project going). I think something complex like that is already available for the RT/10 anyway.

Keep in mind that to remove the fuel filler door on the RT/10, you need to pull the fender as it is pop rivited on in a spot you cannot reach W/O pulling the fender. Most folks seem to want a bolt on application.

Note that on Gen III's Dodge changed the monting so the fuel filler lid is bolted on.

I think I can get them anadozed in several colors, Blue and Red look really nice also. I have discussed details with my source for anadozing about the different colors/cost issue. I was simply going for a batch of clear ones. I'll find out the cost difference.

I can also powder coat them if you wish.

I took another look at it, and another option is to have the customer cut the original arm near the door and slide the new door on over the original arm. Then set screw tight. That would work just fine, however, people cringe at the idea of sawing up their Viper. Agree?

Good points guys, I don't want to saw up my car. How about making something that looks like the ones on the Gen3 but it sticks on the existing door? Another company makes them already but I don't like the looks of it. Make it somewhat thick, say 1/16 or 1/8 and make it so that when it is applied you cannot see any part of the original fuel door.

Getting closer. I am now maching the bottoms. I should have some pics of them installed in the car by the end of the day. I have only made a dozen sets of these and I am definately keeping a set for myself. They look pretty cool. Tomorrow I am sending them out to get anodized and I'm not sure how long that will take. For those who asked to not have them anodized, I can ship them tomorrow.

I also have a couple sets with minor flaws that I can sell for half price.

The scratches you see in the photo will be polished off after I machine the rest of the stock off.

OK, Here are some photos. I have found that I did not like the "all aluminum" as a door pull. I though the thing looked great until I put it in the door. It was just too much.

Personal taste, of course.

So I powder coated the inner part of the cup black and I thought it looked great (looked even better when I changed it from gloss to satin. Sorry, no pics). The staff in our shop thought the same. In the first pic, there is a polished ring with satin inner, polished ring with black inner, and all brushed.

I need to know which way you guys want to go with all of this before I send them out for anodize.

All polished is turning into a bit of a nightmare. It its very difficult to get a good finish inside the cup and battle the minor machine marks.

Here is the final finish that I am sending to anodize (I delayed sending them until Monday). They are lightly brushed on the inside and polished on the ring. I am keeping a couple of sets in raw form for those who may want powder coat on the inside.

I'm ready to take orders for those who want them. I'll ebay the rest.

I have these sitting on my table at home. I had a few people pass by and comment about them. Not knowing what they are, a consistant comment is "Nice looking ash tray".

At least they are "nice looking".

Again, I'd personally stick with black on the inside of the cup, but I will stick with anodizing the way they are. The inside can always be painted later.
