I know alot about GEN 2s and GEN 3s, but I was to young when the Viper came out back in '92, so I know very little about the '92-'95 snakes.

- What I know:

1)8.0L V-10 Engine.
2)400hp, 450 lb-ft of Torque(or was it 465 lb-ft?).
3)Side exhaust.
4)180mph speedo.
5)No roof, no windows.

- What I want to know:

The published numbers of:
1)0-60mph
2)0-100mph
3)1/4 mile time
4)1/4 mile speed
5)Top speed
6)Lateral g, Skidpad
7)Slalom, lets say 600ft
8)60-0mph
9)The real Torque rating(450 or 465?)
10)Exhaust sound, is the UPS truck sound true or is not that bad? Btw, I like the GEN 2 roar.

I'll love to know more about my fav. car, Thanks. Btw, did a search but could not find the answers to my questions. :(

Take care, Mike. :usa:

Wow, the power of the web, from Hawaii to Puerto Rico in just seconds :) . Great review thanks for the link, but still most of the Q's remain, anyone have the specs in question?

I have two mags. Both are Car and Driver, March 92 covers the performance test on the Viper, and Dec 95 covers the 96 Gen 1.5 RT/10. And I have the Dodge Viper Performance Portfolio book. The performance #s are Gen 1.

0-60: 4.3
0-100: 10.5
1/4 mile time: 12.8
1/4 trap speed: 109.9
top speed: 168
G-forces: .98
slalom: 68.4
braking from 60-0: 145 ft
braking from 70-0: 180 ft
torque rating: (Gen I) 450 lb/ft (Gen 1.5) 488 lb/ft

Stock exhaust note does sound like a UPS truck at idle on the side exhaust, haven't heard one at full rip. Something to keep in mind with Vipers is that most owners get aftermarket exhaust. [EDIT]: On the Gen IIs [end EDIT]-You can't hear the stock exhaust half way throught the rev range. Both are personal experiences!

I got my #s out of 3 magazine articles, so don't blame me for my numbers. I'm not saying you or Dodge is wrong, neither am I saying the magazines are wrong. I'm just posting what I know.

M Rod, I was just curious as to why you said you couldn't remember the Gen 1s, saying that you were too young. That's the reason why I asked. I'm 18 and I still remember my first two Viper sightings, both in 93 I believe. You can PM me if you need any more info.

I remember my first Viper sighting, a red Gen 1 back in '93 or '94, still drooling :D . Saw Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez's(Major League b-ball player) Gen 1.5 Viper up close and personal back in '97, just wanted to know the performance #s. Thanks for the info.

I think I was 11 when I saw my first Viper, that would have been in 93, black. That was incredible and said that one day I wanted to have a car like that, got my picture beside it, now I got a red gen 1. Never thought I would actually have one, but somehow miracles happen I guess.

My First Viper Sighting was at the Mall of america dodge display, a Beautiful White Viper R/T 10 with Blue Stripes....

On the street it was 1997 a Red And Silver R/T 10

As far as I know, all or nearly all Gen I (maybe except the very early vipers) Vipers come with the foldup soft top.

Hard top is an orderable option.

I can give a little first hand experience for top speed. I ran at Mid-Ohio a couple of weeks ago, and was hitting 145-150 depending on how cleanly I took the corner. This was the pro-course (no key hole)for those that are familiar with Mid-Ohio. I was maxing 4th gear or close to it. I would say the 168 top speed is a little low. A fella by the name of Frank ???? runs a lime green '95, no interior, full cage, Hoosier slicks.... stock motor. He was hitting 170 on the back, not sure how close to red line in 5th. He also dyno'd 388hp at the wheels. It was 35 degrees that day.

A few Qs real quick before I take action on it. I have a friend that has a scanner. I'm not sure how the pages will turn out, if the print will be readable, and how the pics will be.
--here's the Qs--
1; would you rather me send it to you over the computer (my e-mail does not have that capability) as a file through AIM, or send it via snail mail (pages would have to be folded). I will not charge for either part, no need to bother.
2; do you want me to post the Gen 1.5 performance on here anyway also? That won't be a prob, I know where it is in the mag.

Here it is then
0-60: 4.1
5-60: 4.6
0-100: 9.8
1/4 mile: 12.6 @ 113
top speed (drag limited): 173
braking 70-0: 163 ft
handling: .97
EPA city: 13 mpg
EPA highway: 21 mpg

And for kicks, since I thought the Viper community would like this...
THE VERDICT
Highs: The way other cars let yougo first, prodigious g-forces, sunny days.
Lows: Interior hospitality of a grizzly's den, assembly details that look homemade, rainy days.
The Verdict: A raw-meat roadster for the guy who doesn't care what anybody says.

I forgot to put in 415 HP, and 488 lb/ft torque
This article also has a quick preview on the Carroll Shelby Viper RT/10CS!

And I just found another article from Road and Track with the "ketchup and mustard" RT/10 in the Viper Performance Portfolio book.

more #s...
700 ft slalom: 62.0 mph
braking 60-0: 136 mph
braking 80-0: 232 mph
